Title: charging battery
Post by: Jon Spencer on Mar 10, 2008, 12:38 PM
I have a 95 starcraft satellite 1224 and was wondering if the battery can be charged while plugging in to 110v.  I know it charges while connected to the alternator on the tv, but I don't want to purchase a charger if I don't have to.  Thanks.

The battery will maintain a charge while plugged in but if the converter is the original, it will not give an adequate charge for dry camping.

If you plan on dry camping or if you just want your battery to last longer, I would recommend purchasing a "Smart" 3-stage charger..... :D

Your battery many or may not charge, depending on the converter in your PU.  Older converters did not charge batteries very well.  A 3 stage charger or a new converter that has 3 stage charging will do a better job.  Also your alternator will only slightly charge your battery and you have to have a "hot" line from the TV to the PU.  :)

hey, thanks a pile!!  I'll look up ebay right now, the shipping better be worth it though.  I was lucky I had hookups this weekend, the battery failed on me.

One more question though.  It seems that my pilot for my fridge doesn't want to light anymore.  Full tank, but no flame.  Any guesses?

Just got my charger in the mail today.  ITs a good deal even with shipping.  They had the exact one at Walmart for $65

Check the water in your battery before charging. If the water is low enough to expose the plates, the battery is 90% toast. If the water is still covering the plates, fill it with DISTILLED water before charging and check before charging each time.

The regulator may be bad, you may have air in the line, any number of things can cause that. Does the pilot light, then go out after you hold the button in for 30 seconds? Does the stove work?

That's an awsome battery charger that Dkutz stole....uh....er.....bought.  :D

sounds good, gonna buy that same charger right now.  My battery is brand new btw.  die hard.

I'll check the orifice.  It was lit for awhile, but maybe the high winds this last weekend clogged it.
