Ok so I was thinking about the gizmos and buying some for my pop-up. I also was thinking that they have those sun shades for the car and some are pretty larrge. Do you think if I sewed a couple of those together I would get the same results? Its the same type of thing it has reflectix on them. What do you guys think?

Howdy Susan,
Probably better to use Reflectix if you're going to go this way. I can't say for sure, but I'd think most sun shades use an interior paper based product to maintain the shape of the shade. Assuming this is correct, after a rain or two the shade will lose rigidness and become a problem.
Reflectix is Mylar on bubble wrap...no paper interior so rain will not be a problem...better than the sun shades IMHO.
Now, I could do a comparison...PopupGizmos vs Reflectix. But I'll hold myself back. Hanging on, holding back....arg... (

You might want to watch what you use to substitute for popupgizmo's, some items people have tried rub off on the roof material and make a mess others work okay. I bought the gizmo's a couple of years ago and they are a good investment in your camper especially if you camp in sunny sites a lot. After using them I would buy them again if need be. I bought a sportsmans blanket from Cabela's that I hang in the camper in front of the rear bunk we don't use when the wife and I camp alone to help make it easier to heat the camper. It is a similar material as the gizmo's but I don't think it is as heavy. Some have bought these and sewed them together to make their own bunk end covers but I would need four of them to cover both bunks and the cost with shipping would not be much cheaper than the gizmo covers and I would have to still sew them together myself and buy the clips to hold them on yet. I can see no savings here.
Car sun shades won't work at all. They are thin mylar-like material over a foam-type core, and they wouldn't make it.
If you don't want to go with Popup Gizmos, then use the "Sportsmans Blankets" sold by Cabela's, REI, and other's. It takes 2 of them sewn together to do a king size bunk and about 1-1/2 of them to do a queen size bunk. "Space" blankets are not the same as "Sportsmans Blankets" and won't work either.
Reflectix is a great insulation, but again, not for this situation because the mylar will rub silver off onto your roof vinyl.....and then start to break down and come apart.
If you're a DIY'er and can sew, the "Sportsmans Blankets" can be a fun and rewarding project. Otherwise go with the Gizmos.
There's another thread right here near this one, so take a look and find photos and links that will help you make a decision.
Why reinvent the product when Pop Up Gizmos makes a good product at a good price? Can you imagine how much they'd cost at Camping World or as a dealer option? Probably double!
IMHO I don't think many in the pop up camper or aftermarket product business are getting rich, so if you find a good deal take it.
Buy the Gizmos. Take a look at the other thread here and just look at their great Customer Service!
