Been a long time since i've been here online. Still own and camp in our '97 Palomino but looking for a pop up that's easier to set up. Hubby has emphysema and cannot help set it up any more. Are the hard side pop ups any easier? Anyone got one?

I don't have one, but the new 2008 Fleetwood Takoma looks to be a nice hardwall. You might want to check out the web-site and/or view it at a dealership.
Hey Elaine! Welcome back. I can't answer your question, buy you might try sending an email to Miller Tyme - he used to have a hard side Palomino. Not sure if he still owns it, but I'm sure would answer questions. Have you been able to get out camping at all lately?
If you're willing to give up size for ease, look into an Aframe. Either Aliner or Chalet, it dosen't get much easier than those.

Hi Jan, we went out to 7 points on Memorial day and will be there for the 4th also. Had to give up caming for awhile because hubby has had a hard couple of years with emphysema and then had a perferated colon (from steroids) and had to have a colostomy........Just getting back to normal (what ever that is, lol)

Have you considered putting a motorized lift on your current camper? Or maybe purchasing another one with the electric lift system.
Elaine - if an Aliner is in your budget, I have to concur with Marcy on this one. I've watched her completely set it up in the time it takes me to crank mine up. It would be very easy for you to handle and if you camp like me, you spend almost all your time outside so space might not be a big issue.
(and I'm jealous -- 7 Points for the 4th sounds great!). We've only gotten out once this year, and I'm not sure when we'll make it out again.

Is your current Palomino a hardside? The hardside Pals can have motorized winches installed, as can most any pop-up. A few people on some of the internet boards have done it. Not sure of the cost, but it's best if the dealer does the work.
As far as a new Pal hardside, they stopped building them last year.:( You may find a left over, at a fair price(around $8500-$9000). Otherwise, as Marcy and the others mentioned, there is the Chalet and A-Liners, but those don't have a motorized winch for set-up/teardown as far as I know. The new Fleetwood Tacoma mentioned is a bit pricey at about $15000+.

Used to own a Palomino that was hard sided and it was spring loaded. I mean it had to have 2 people to put up because you had to have someone help you push up on it at the same time you did to set it up. Much harder than just rolling it up with a handle. So I don't advise it, unless you are looking at a camper like trail manor, or hi low, where you basically flip a switch or push an electric button to put it up, and set up the door. Casita is a small light weight camper but not a pop up, and easy to pull. Aliner is a small "pop up" all hard sided and takes a minimal effort to set up. The only dealer I personally know of that sells them is Western Campers in Ft. Worth TX but sure there are other locations that do. (
westerncampers.com) Many RV manufacturers have short videos explaining how they lift on their websights. Also many pop ups can be outfitted with electric cranks. On the main page of :tent: :tent: pop up mag. websight it has a manufacturer tab I'd look at those. It's always nice when possible to rent what you are considering purchasing before. Hope this helps just a bit. :D
