had a little bit of wind this weekend thought we were going to end up in kansas we have a 2008 viking with the carefree awning was wondering what in the best awning tie down kits out there thanks
There are two components to securing an awning.... the lines and stakes. Some folks have by passed the lines and use stakes, weights, concrete filled plant containers or water filled containers and attached them to the base of the awning poles.
There are two options to the ropes that come with the awning. you can use heavy duty bungee cords (http://he-ruide.smugmug.com/gallery/3488358_LaKhf#196491734_X8Qwx) or ratchet tie downs (http://www.keepercorp.com/prod/rtd.htm).
There are several different options to improving the stakes. I carry an assortment (http://he-ruide.smugmug.com/gallery/3488358_LaKhf#196479085_zxtkt) because the one I might use depends on the soil condition. For example there are instances where the cork screw stake (http://he-ruide.smugmug.com/gallery/3488358_LaKhf#196488434_Wdawx) is very effective and other places where I have to pound a stake (http://he-ruide.smugmug.com/gallery/3488358_LaKhf#196492296_76Lyy) into the ground.
Hope this helps.

I use Hold-Awn Awning Straps Catalog Item # 2359 from camping world
the straps work well Unfortunetly here in Cali the cork screw stakes don't work in most places so I pound in a regular stake
Does your Carefree have the supports that connect back to the PU?
Campout? (http://www.carefreeofcolorado.com/rvfcpa_campout.asp?m=01030101)
Just wondering cuz that seems to be the way to go and do without tie downs to get in the way.
Wouldn't tie it off the the trailer be less risky than a stake pulling out or tripping over.
I have a Carefree that has supports back the the PU. I use rope ratchets back to the trailer frame to add a little security for wind.
I found these at Home Depot and they work great.

I'm liking that Carfree more and more!
I guess it is out of the question to use rope and a boy scout knot back to the PU? :book: :D
