Title: tail gating grills
Post by: PLJ on Aug 04, 2008, 10:17 PM
I'm looking at buying a large tailgating style grill. for the ones that state they run on the 1lb disposaple canisters of propane, can they be easily converted to run off the 20lb bottles? Is it just a case of buying the hose and type 1 adapter?

thanks

Why not just buy a Weber Q.

Saying you want a "large grill" and want to use "1lb canisters" is a bit confusing.  Tell us what you plan on doing with this grill.  How big/heavy it can be?  What & how much you intent to grill at the same time?  Why the need for 1lb canisters?

There are hundreds of choices out there for all sorts of needs.

Yes, it is just that easy. Some Home Depot's carry one with an ACME, here is one that is a P.O.L.

We have the Coleman Roadtrip, the Blue one without the wheels.

And it's a whole lot cheaper then that.  Got mine for $129 at the Coleman Outlet store (my favorite place when my wife drags me to the outlets).

It's great in that it's easy to move around, can be used without the base on a picnic table or on a regular table (the red ones with the wheels you can't remove the legs) and it will run off the standard small propane bottles.  You can also get the adapter to run it off a big propane bottle.

Biggest thing we love is the changeable grates.  So we have 2 grills, 1 griddle and 2 burners.  So for breakfast for example I might have 1 griddle for pancakes and 1 grill for sausages.  For dinner might have both grills in.  Or maybe one grill for steaks and a burner to boil potatoes.  Mix and match to your desire.

Sorry for the confusion.  :eyecrazy: I asked whether the large grills can be converted from 1lb canisters to 20 lb tanks.

Looks like I found what I needed, Camp chef do a 90,000 BTU 3 burner for around 229, already has the adaptor and hose to run off the tanks. I should be able to feed the multitudes with that very quickly  :p

Thanks for the help and replies.
