Title: Newbie: First Time PU Owner !
Post by: darkknight66 on Aug 07, 2008, 12:07 AM
Where do I start ?  I am the new owner of a 2008 Rockwood PU..did the dealer training but so much was thrown at me over the course of 2 hours and that was 5 weeks ago.  Manuals aren't as helpful as they said they would be..
My main question is, we're ready to go on first adventure, but I kinda need a list of what I need to buy for the camper to hook it up..not list of what to bring...we do alot of tent camping so I've got that down well...more like, what kind of hoses, extension cords, grey water tank (what is that), etc....
My camper has a full bath with flushable toilet...
Anyonw have any suggestions or website for help??

Welcome!

Honestly, I'd recommend you go visit the dealership again.  You've spent a lot of money on a nice rig and they can tell you what basic items you specifically need.  Then you can choose to buy from them, or get online and do some shopping.

I recommend making a camping trip close to home that way you need what to bring the next time. Camp in the front or back yard for a night. I live in the mid-south so we use extension cords for the bug zapper and outdoor lights. If you set up your camper plug it in, screw in the city water hose you will find out trust me, It's what we did.
Gray water is anything with soap. Get a short piece of hose (6ft) and you will connect it next to the city water connection. Go run the sink or shower and then look out side. You will need a catch can for the soap water. I use a 6 gallon water container that I found at Wal-Mart for a couple dollars. I also recommend bringing a Y-gate if you don't have and outside shower connection. You can run 1 hose to the camper for city water and then 1 hose with sprayer to hose of dishes, muddy kids, stinky dog, etc...
In regards of what to buy...Well, a camper is a luxary and the mind is the only limitation. There are some that go for microwaves, but I'm a firm beliver in an electric skillet. It doesn't take up much room and reheating is a snap and the kids love it when I make breakfast in it.
The last small recommendation that I would make is 2-3 6ft extension cords and a couple of those 6 way surge protectors (just in case). Good luck!

As stated by others, the thing to do is to visit "Camp Driveway" for a few days.
This is what the wife and I did for a weekend and we where glad we did because we learned alot and we where at home to avoid any diasters. We made a list of things we found we needed and made a list of things to ask the dealer. I believe that nothing ruins a camping trip more than having problems when you want to relax and enjoy nature. Just my two cents worth. Have a great time with that new PUP.    :U
