Title: Waterproofing
Post by: Jogameky on Aug 11, 2008, 06:34 PM
We recently bought a 2001 Viking Legend. Everything is in great working order but when there is a heavy rain we are getting water seeping in on both of the side panels of the front bunks. We seam sealed the upper stitch row (that connects the top of the front bunk with the side) and it helps a little but now getting water seeping in under the stitches. Outside - the water runs off the bunk & top of the camper along the upper canvas seal. Inside - the water will run down the metal bar in the corners or just slowing drip under the seam onto the bunks. Many times I will get a water mark on the corner of the mattress near the metal bars.
My question is I don't know what type of canvas material I have. My panels are white, soft fiberous on the inside, almost a plastic, vinyl-like on the outside.
And can I use a silicone spray water repellent? I purchase a bottle at Walmart but am afraid to use it. I only want to spray the spots that are giving me trouble.
Should I spray just the inside, outside or both?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

Do you by chance have your owners manual?  It should tell you recommended waterproofing products/application.

If you do not have your owners manual, you might be able to download a copy from //www.popupportal.com

Thank you very much for replying. I do have an owners manual but all it states is that you can rub candle wax or bee's wax into leaky stitch holes. This is definitely the down side of not being the first owner - I have no idea what this pup went through.

I have a few pin holes in my tenting. Viking/Coach suggested I get a strong light at night to find the holes and us "VLP" vinyl repair.
