Title: Bal Leveler and 8 inch tires
Post by: detman64 on Aug 21, 2008, 12:33 AM
Hello.

I have 5.70-8 tires on my pup and have been reading on the Bal Levelers. I am thinking of getting one but was wondering if anyone has ever used a Bal on an eight inch tire? If so what mod. was made to make it work since they say it works on 13, 14, and 15 in tires. I have read that it works with 12 in but nothing on 8 inch so any input on this would be a great help.

If you can, go to a website and find the diameter specs for 12's and for your 8's and see how different they are.  I use my BAL with my 5.80-12's and it works fine, but I'm not sure how much smaller of a tire it could take.

I think it would be very easy to mod it though.  There are 2 square plates on each side of the "U" that slides under your tire.  It would be dead easy to go over those plates with a wider set of plates.....of course testing it before you use it for real.

You might also call the folks at BAL and see what they say.

I have read of many who have used the BAL on 8" tires by putting a piece of board on top of the plates of the BAL leveler to fill the gap and it works just fine. I have 20.5 x 8 - 10 tires on my Coleman and it works fine with them.

We have a 1997 Jayco with 8" tires and we have been using the bal leveler for 4 years now and we haven't needed any mod.  You just have to turn a bit until the leveler meets the tire.

Never a problem for us.

I have seen people use wood to make a snugger fit for small tires.  Good luck.:)
