Title: Can anyone identify this pop-up?
Post by: Sitting Bull on Jan 25, 2009, 10:05 AM
I'm looking to make a pop-up that is a little more off-road friendly than my Viking.  This one looks like I could modify the suspenstion/tires/clearance alot easier.  But before I drive 2 hours to go see it, can anyone tell me the make/brand of it?  I'm trying to dig up some pictures online of what it looks like popped up.

Thanks!!!

Brad - that looks like an old tent trailer, rather than a more traditional pop-up.  Tough to ID from that one poor photo.  It should be nice and light, which is a good trait for an off-road trailer.

Which model Viking do you have?  Year?  If you have one of the newer ones with the Torflex axle, you can gain ground clearance by adding a spacer between the axle and frame, as well as taller tires.

thanks for the tips guys, I searched for Nimrod's, which led to a site for Appleby's.  It looks like the Appleby to me, and seeing it altogether, that's not really what I'm looking for either.

Guess I'll be modifying the suspension on my Viking.  I've built several susp systems for Jeeps, this will be my first on a trailer.  4 link coil setup?  LOL.

Yes it is a tent trailer

If you look inside of the trailer, there are a bunch of poles in the bed.  Two of these poles go under each of the beds to support it.

Then you take some more poles and put them into slots and then drag the canvas over the poles.  That makes it a tent trailer.

My first camper was a 1969 Sears tent trailer.  Had a lot of fun with it.  Believe me, there were no amenities in that thing.  No lights, fridge, stove, furnace, etc.  It was a tent on wheels.

Hope whoever buys it knows what he is buying.
