Hey guys, I'll soon be tearing my pop-up down to change the bed set-up and try to get some more clearance on the suspension system.
The model I have has a torsion arm setup (don't know what the correct terminology would be) instead of leaf springs. Right now, I'm weighing two options. 1) keeping the torsion arm setup and just putting some blocks b/w the axle and frame. 2) Welding a leaf spring set-up on there.
Fabrication skills aside, how do you think the torsion arm set-up will hold up? Obviously, that will be much simpler, but I'm worried about it taking the abuse.
Thoughts???
I have heard many more stories about broken leaf springs and mounts than I have about broken torflex axles. I am not saying that you can't breatk the torflex.
There will be far less work adding the spacer than adding reinforcements and brackets to the existing frame for a leaf conversion. you can always go to leaf springs if the spacer does not give you enough clearance. I also think the Torflex has better inherent damping, compared to leaf springs.
Just some thoughts.
