Fun! :)
joined the group
Just joined group. This will be a great addition to this website to see more about camping.
Steve,
I think it is a good idea to use Facebook to advertise the magazine and maybe get some new folks to join this forum.
Now, I did create an account and joined the Facebook group. However, I'm not sure I see the value of joining the group. Are you attempting to create another discussion group, when we have this one?

My sentiments exactly........However, I must admit, I know very little about FB or how it works. I have a facebook account because all of our kids do and they like to send us pics through it.
I also know that every scammer in the world has tried to contact me through the thing and every day I get requests to be people's "Friend" that I've never heard of.

I have never been contacted on facebook by anyone that didn't know me??? Have you made sure you are listed as "private"? I'm on there everyday and have over 50 "friends" that I know IRL on there and I swear I've never had a single person I didn't know request me...... I'm also on private ;)
Gracy,
You must be well versed on how to get the most out of facebook since you say you us it everyday.
Perhaps you can give us a little heads up on how to us it and what it can do for us.

I use it as a communication tool.... I talk to friends, family and co-workers. If you don't know anyone that already has an account I would think it would be pointless to have one yourself.... but you could create one and see who you know that finds you! Thanks to myspace I have connected with several people I lost touch with from school and also a cousin we lost touch with many years ago. I am greatful for it.... I think it brings people closer together. I use it as a social tool.... just like coming here to the boards and talking to ya'll about camping related topics ;)
Gracy,
Thanks for your response. I revisited my privacy profile yesterday and selected everything to either "just friends" or "no one". Hopefully, I'm now invisible and I will not get any more requests to be friends from folks that have no interest in camping.
However, your comment that you use Facebook as a social communication tool just as you use this board to talk about camping re-enforces the comment that Wavery and I have been making about the value of joining the Facebook group.

I to joined FB but I get notice in my yahoo email that I have a message in FB and these very people have my email so why should I keep answering two places?
I don't feel the need to type a one line about what I'm thinking today. I do have the FB account as private so I do not get bothered. Maybe I'm just to old to understand it.......Hahaaaaaaa
Guess I'll keep it due to the fact my younger family members do enjoy using it.
Just be careful about how much info you put in FB because it does belong to them and even if you stop using it they still keep all your info..
I joined your group tonight, i'm still trying to figure out the site though....Ed
awesome, I am totally addicted to FB lol. Probably why I haven't posted many other places in a while. lol
I also use it to keep in touch with friends old and new. I have reconnected with several friends from high school, found a cousin that no one knew exsisted, am able to stay connected with other parents from my CHD suport groups that I belong to, and to stay connected with parents in my children's schools. It is much less of a commitment than the phone since you can respond on your own time so if a child calls you, you can stop typing on the computer and go see what is the matter instead of having to hang up and call back etc. It is a great tool and a lot of fun, too. Of course, it is not as private as a phone conversation since any of your friends can comment...
I did get only one friend request I didn't know and I just did accept it. All my info is listed as just friends to keep it a little more private. But I wouldn't post anything on there I wouldn't want my mother to see... lol
Just like anything on the web, there should be ZERO expectation of privacy. That being said, FB is a great way to connect with folks. It is also rapidly becoming a hot advertising medium as well. Just remember a few simple "common sense" rules with FB and you'll be fine
- Don't post anything there that you wouldn't want the world to see
- Be careful about posting things like phone numbers, WHOLE addresses, etc.
- "Private" never really means "private"...although FB is infinitely more secure and less risky than Myspace.
