Do you use this or is there a better cooking alternative? How messy does it get? I hadn't even thought about cooking under the awning until I saw negative comments about it.
Please share your experiences and thoughts?
Thanks,

Thanks,
We have the RVQ that attaches to the side of the PUT. We have used it a couple times and havn't had any mess from it. We like it, its worked well for us.
We have one also and use it on every camping trip. its very convenient. I don't understand the awning issue, since the flames would never get that high and any smoke from it is blown down wind. Now if yours is a low pressure unit, it might take a long time to cook your food.
we have the RVQ as well, and I'm not sure, but I think it would be considered low pressure, but it works fine, and quick. No problems, and I even take it apart every couple of trips and give it a thorough cleaning. It fits nicely in the utility sink, or it will even run through the dishwasher, but I take the gas tube and control knob off first. There are probably better grills out there, but heck this was free considering I got this or the outdoor stove option, but I have a Coleman outdoor stove so the RVQ was my choice. I'll continue to use this for the long foreseeable future.
I use ours a lot, and well satisifed.
I use a RV mat outside the camper, and learned that excess BBQ sauce or drippings were falling from the grill to the mat...so I now use an old bath towel under the grill if something more messy is on the menu.
The RVQ on the outside of the camper can also be used as an oven. I have made biscuits, cake, and baked squash on the grill by just turning down the heat and removing the top rack for more space.

I have an RVQ grill with bracket, and grill steaks/chicken on a regular basis. I don't have flare ups or much smoking. Unit works well and cleans up easily.
We used it one time. Bagged it up and it now resides in the attic. This is a low-pressure RVQ and we found that the energy output just wasn't what we wanted. That first trip we were trying to grill bacon for breakfast. It took so long we were starting to think we were going to have BLTs for lunch. :D
We now use a Camp Chef 2-burner stove with the removable griddle plate and BBQ box. This is heavier and larger, but with 30K BTUs per burner it cooks very well.
We bought our 1997 Coleman Santa Fe brand new and had high hopes for our indoor outdoor stove. We tried it a few times and resorted to using our Coleman camp stove that we used for years on tent camping trips. We also bring a little portable BBQ pit with us as well.

Our RVQ now resides in someone else's PUP gave it away last year , I much prefer my Q.

What is a Q?

Camp Chef is the ONLY way to go! I have the Pro 90 stove, Griddle, Bar-B-Q box, Keg Roaster, And ALL the accessories.. It's like their motto says "The way to cook Outdoors"
http://www.campchef.com/ No other camp stove does what a Camp Chef can do!
The one time we actually got our RVQ to work, it was windy outside and we ended up with lots of smoke inside, too. Notice I said one time. We had so much trouble with the stupid thing that we gave up on it and actually trashed it at the cg. (would have tried to sell it, but if it was a problem with the grill I didn't want to rip someone else off). The previous owner of our pup had never used it. We got a Weber Q and love it! The rest of the cooking is still done on the Coleman stove from our tenting days. I think we have used the stove inside the camper a couple of times. I would rather cook outside. I can cook indoors any time at home. I go camping to be OUTSIDE. Hence, we cook outside unless it's miserable weather.

I think its the best little grill I've ever used, heres a link to the
Q. We have the Q-100 with stand, bag and hose for use w/20# bottle of lp.We keep it just inside the door first out last in.
We have the RVQ and use it quite often and I haven't had any issues. I do breakfast cooking on inside stove and grilling for supper or dinner on the RVQ or over firepit. I have one of those tripod grills that you adjust up and down over the wood fire. I like the flavor from the wood fire versus the RVQ. Also a pizza is easier to cook over the fire than cut it and cook it on the RVQ.

Same here. Used it once, took 20 minutes to cook 2 hot dogs. These things are horrible. Packed it up and use our Coleman Roadtrip.
I would never recommend these RVQ things to anyway, they stink.
We use our RVQ about every other trip, It works great for pork tenderloins plain or marinated, grilled vegies, steaks, brats, breakfast sasauge. Ours is low pressure and works fine. The one down fall in my book is the clean up, but overall we are quite happy with ours. :usflag:
I wonder if some of the RVQ's are just bad, or if some of us just got lucky and got one that works. It appears that about half the people didn't have any major issues with them and the other half did.
Anyway, I have one and it works for me, but based on the amount of negative feedback, I would be very hesitant to purchase one. Of course mine was thrown in with the camper at no charge, well an option of the RVQ or outdoor stove, which from what I can tell, those weren't too good for some folks either. .
I've seen 2 different types of RVQs, one with a grate for cooking meats and one with a cooking surface.
I have the one with the cooking surface and it's not great.
yeah I think the grate was the older version and the other one with the griddle surface was the newer RVQ2 or something. we have the older version.

Hey, Scott.
We actually went with the Roadtrip after giving up on the RVQ. The Roadtrip worked okay and we'd still have it if the wind hadn't come up one evening and slammed the lid down, breaking the latch. I contacted Coleman for a replacement and after several phone calls and waiting for over 3 months I called them again and asked if there was anything else we could do. "Sure," the CS rep says, "you can return it to us for a full refund." I took advantage of that, thinking I'd just go get another Roadtrip and be more careful in high winds. It was while shopping for the new Roadtrip I ran across the Camp Chef line. As good as the Roadtrip is, the Camp Chef is much better. (Except for the additional weight.)
Have a high pressure, two burner grill. DH loves it, DW loves DH cooking outside.
All the frying and any cooking that produces smoke is done outside. Love that.
Used it left closed as a table top to hold an electric Belgium waffle maker, last weekend. Able to cook breakfast while others dressed inside.
Love it.
Took it apart, cleaned it with degreaser, and resembled in 10 minutes.
Awning makes no difference. Would need a really big grease fire for that to matter.
