Title: re Bal leveler in driveway:
Post by: Dante221 on Apr 29, 2009, 05:39 AM
Hello All!
I am considering getting a Bal leveler for use in my driveway when I
am working on my Quicksilver 5.0. Two questions:
1) my tires are only 12" -can I use some wood spacers where the tires rest in the
"cradle" to compensate ?(Bal says 13" to 15" range)
2) one side of the camper is FIVE inches lower than the other as it sits in the driveway- will the range of the BAL make the rig level?

I want to thank you all in advance for your help . This is my first camper
& I appreciate your expertise

I have one of these levelers and use it with my Coleman Mesa (13" tires).  There have been some posts here recently regarding using the Bal levelers with 12" tires.  As I recall, the general concensus is that there should not be any real issues using it on 12" tires. As others have said previously, you could go ahead and use some wood shims, just for the sake of feeling better about the tire fit.  On the particular leveler I have (and I'm sure it's the same design as any other Bal Leveler) a 12" tire will be plenty secure.  As for the lift, I've gotten about 6" with mine, so I don't think 5" should be a problem. What I've found when I have a big lift to perform is that I need to pull the Bal out just a bit from the tire, otherwise my wrench hits the tire wheel cover as the lift progresses.  I hope this helps. Good luck with your camping adventures.:W

Been using the BAL Leveler on my 5.30x12's for 2 seasons.  No problem at all, even on slopped sites where I had the BAL maxed out.

Hello All
Just a note to tell you that the Bal leveler worked
perfectly in my driveway , allowing me to open & work
inside the Quicksilver with no trouble at all!
This leveler is HIGHLY recommended!

My BAL leveler sits in our barn and hasn't been used in years since it kicked out when cranked up pretty high on my Jayco with 12 inch tires.
I never complained to the company since they clearly state 13 inch and up tires, but I also won't use it on my Starcraft with 13 inch tires!

I much prefer the stability of the leveling blocks or even lengths of 2 by 6! All you have to do is crank the BAL up and look at the angle of the part that grips your tire!
