We're heading out to Yellowstone in late June. Do you have any recommendations for a campground there?
I enjoyed Canyon Village, but if you asking, I bet you don't have a reservation in the park.
There are several first come first serve 'dry' camping areas, I would like to stay at Tower Falls or several of the other non reserve-able camp grounds if I ever go back!
I went late August/early Sept 2005. Several loops had been shut at Canyon by then and the crowds were nill.
We'll be staying at Grant Village Campground from July 1 to the 14th. Can't tell you anything about it yet. Looking forward to the trip. Maybe we should compare notes when we get back.

Just a hint, take some winter clothes. We were there many years ago on July 4th. It got down to the 30's at night. Nice and warm during the daytime though.
I have a picture of DW bundling up in a winter parker, pants, gloves, and hat while getting into her sleeping bag. but then we were in an 8 footer without a heater but then the cg didn't have electricity either.
Thanks for the advice, Gene. I was anticipating 30's at night and planning to take some warm clothes. Grant campground's at about 7700'. Temps will drop fast. We've got a Mr. Buddy Heater, not sure if it will work at that altitude. We can use the camper furnace and hope the solar panels will recharge during the day. Say hello to your DW for us! We need to go camping together again.
We stayed at Flagg Ranch two years ago in June. It is about 2mi south of the South Entrance so it is also close to the Teton Nat Park. Great location, clean bathrooms and showers. You are actually camping in the woods with hook ups (only 20A). We were there for 6 nights. The weather was crazy. It snowed the first night with temps in the 20s, and it was in the 70s by the time we left.
Thanks for the general info and taking the time to respond. We found one that seems to be a nice campground, Grand Teton Park RV Resort, Moran, WY. We think it's close enough to Yellowstone to use it as base camp.

We are taking the PUP to the KOA in West Yellowstone July 2-11. We chose the KOA since they have lots of fun stuff for the kiddos (3 1/2 and 17 months) and it will be a great base camp to go into the park and to explore and fish the whole area. This will be the first long trip in the PUP since we got it last year. I am getting really excited to go and am busy trying to get everything together. One of the big tasks for us is to look at the other areas in the park where we can camp next time.

We did Yellowstone in June 2008. AWESOME! You guys will love it! It did get down to about 32 degrees a few nights. We were prepared with an extra battery for the furnace, but didn't need it. There was snow at some higher elevations, and some of the smaller lakes were still frozen. Daytime temps where mid to high 70's. It was a trip of a lifetime!
We stayed at Madison campground. The site was big. The rangers do enforce bear rules. You'll need to lock all your food in your TV every night. Here are a few pics of our site:

I see an unattended cooler!
I got a warning for leaving my 'cold one' atop my cooler (prepping for diner) as I ran to the head, there wasn't enough 'cover' at my site so I used the head.
We are taking our first trip to Yellowstone in the pop-up. We are staying in Grand Teton July 14 &15 and then at West Yellowstone KOA July 16-19 From there we are going to Mt. Rushmore. Would love to stay in the park sometime but I did not make reservations soon enough. Any idea's for good stuff to do on our day trips into the park?

There are first come first served campgrounds in Yellowstone. Stay nearby but outside the park 1 night and get in line at one of those campgrounds early in the morning. You'll get in.
