Title: School Canceled AGAIN.
Post by: Mahaffey-Family on Sep 28, 2003, 07:05 PM
It is going to be hard from this point on.  We just used our last snow day[:@].  Any days missed from this point on will be put onto the end of the year.  I WANT TO GO CAMPING, and at this rate we will be in school forever.  With winter going the way it is I am not looking forward to the days off next month.  I just hope that mother nature is easy on us.   We have to start back up around August 13th, this year.    Looks like Summer break will be SHORT.

 Mahaffey-FamilyPatrick County, VA
and Rockingham County, NC, Both closed schools today???
Was it that bad that you could not have gone 2 hour delay??
All we got was rain and lots of it. One county below Rockingham....in NC.
Just wondering. The kids here are into 3 days of spring break now. If they miss one more, Mine will miss it because we are headed to Myrtle Beach, SC April 17th.
And I am not going to cancel those campin  plans.

Mahaffey-FamilyWe had a two hours delay waiting on the storm.  The roads were open and stayed open all day.  We only had a dusting.  Of, course our schools are wanting to open earlier and earlier.  They use the snow days as an excuse.  The state of Virginia doesn t want schools to open before Labor Day, which is the way it was when I went to school, we never had a problem.  But, if you have enough snow days you can get a wavier.    But, to answer your question, NO we should have went to school.

Mahaffey-FamilyWe ve had more snowing days this year than ever, but luckily school hasn t been closed for all of them, just MANY days of cleaning off the car. The high school did shut down with 2 days of broken pipes though. Sure has been COLD lately and we haven t seen grass since Thanksgiving. Still have large snow mounds at the end of our driveway and unfortunately at the bus stops so the kids are forced to climb over them or stand in the roads. Sure hope our kids finish before July.

Mahaffey-FamilyHere in Texas we have had several schools (rural areas) close not due to weather but the FLU BUG has hit big time. Hope all this ends soon and we don t get any bad weather that would extend the school year.

Mahaffey-FamilyOur DS has had 2 so far (and one, his school was one of the last ones to get announced, so he kept saying " not fair"  cause all the other schools were getting cancelled.  Then when they finally said his school s name...you would have thought he won the lottery.  The other one was just because of the cold).  There have also been 3 schools closed around here cause of the flu also.

Mahaffey-FamilyAll of our snow days were used up before Christmas.  If we have anymore they get added on to the end of the year too.  They even had a snow day on one of the make up days.  Easter vacation is only Good Friday now.  Kids will have to miss 2-3 days of school [: (]  for our annual Easter camping trip.

One middle school is talking about closing because of the flu.[>:]
