Title: Fav Northwoods spots
Post by: mkcom1 on Jul 09, 2009, 09:55 AM
Hi
I know this should go in the other section but hopeing to get a better response here.  We are planning a trip to northern Wisconsin/U.P. and possibly northern Michiganin the Mid-end of August.  We have stayed at Musky lake and Wilderness state park and enjoyed both.  Some have reccomended Mclain,Porcupine Mts, and Indian Lake.  Any reccomendations for Northern Wisconsin?  We plan on staying out for about two weeks and travel around in our Niagara.  We prefer state parks and ideally electric sites.  I have looked also for a good Wisconsin resort that has a campground but have not found much.  Any help is much appreciated and if anyone has any pics they would like to share that would be great.  Thanks Ken

We stayed at Copper Falls State Park  (//%22http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/parks/specific/copperfalls/%22)in northern Wisconsin 2 years ago and loved it.  The sites were all wooded and very private. It has a pretty good swimming beach and some really nice hiking trails ~ not too difficult for the little ones.  We used it as a home base while exploring the Ashland/Bayfield areas.

I'm not sure the map on their website is accurate as far as electric sites.  I believe they added electric to several sites in 2007 ... I think we had site 20 and that was one of the ones they had just added electric to.  It isn't marked on the map that way.

We stayed at Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park on that trip as well.  The sites weren't as nice as the ones in Copper Falls, but they had loads of ranger programs and lots to do in and around the park.

This is our site at Copper Falls

We really like Veteran's Memorial Park, about 12 minutes north of Antigo. Nice trails, clean showers, clean lake.
