Title: Getting rid of the mouse hole
Post by: Popupper on Jul 28, 2009, 02:14 PM
I read Tim Huntington's excellent article in the current issue of PUT about converting the hard wired power cord to a removable power cord.  I too have had to "fish" the power cord out of the mouse hole when it got pushed in too far. I just ordered a conversion kit and was wondering if anyone else has done this.

I thought about it.....then I figured.....Oh, great.......one more step to add to set-up.......:morning:...I'm trying to cut down, not add too...:eyecrazy:

In all my years of camping, I've never had a problem with the power cord or the "Mouse hole". I find this storage of the power cord a "No-brainer" and at my age, I'll take all the "No-brainers" that I can get.:D

I also thought about making this mod a few years ago.

Then I remembered how forgetful I am, and I would probably drive off leaving the buisness end of this mod on the picnic table after the previous trip.

I just figure I would be very careful pushing the power cord back in to the mouse hole.

During the eighteen years of PU camping, and I haven't lost the plug in to the PU yet.

It probably would be a great mod for those who don't have CRS syndrome like me. (Can't Remember $hit)  :D

Me three.
I love solutions to problems I don't have. :eyecrazy:

I've heard folks have their cords work out of the hole while in transit.
I've never experienced this. My cord stores under the bench along with the almost useless 5 gallon on board water tank. Not much else could go there, so no storage gains. Where would I store the loose cable?

Me Four...I too have read about others having a problem with the plug either going intp the PUP or coming out but I've not have that issue.

While I've read about it, I've not yet experienced the problem.  A neighbor of mine did have the problem, and after getting the cord out again, simply tied string around the cord with a loop to hook around the outside cover.

speaking of "mouse hole"

We had a winter "visitor" a couple years back.  Double checked for any holes under the camper--none.  The only place that mouse could have entered the camper was up the cord and in the "mouse hole"

I think converting to the Marinco connection is a good idea.  The added value is in closing up the "mouse hole":yikes:

We always dry camp so it was a no-brainer to free up cabinet space in our E2. I use the cord at home to keep the battery up and leave it at home when we head out.

One note: the Marinco plug half that mounts to the camper was just barely big enough to cover up the hole left when I pulled out the mouse hole.

I'll think about it later when and "IF" the mouse takes our power cord.....
