Title: Entryway light not working
Post by: 4U2NV on Oct 22, 2009, 07:46 AM
I recently purchased a 2000 Rockwood Freedom 1980 and discovered the entryway (outside) light doesn't work. I checked it with a tester and found i have current up to the switch but thats it. This leads me to believe the switch is bad. any thing else i should look for?

Being the master of the obvious, I'd like to ask if you made sure the bulb was good in another fixture?

Trailer bulbs, connections ... anything electrical, are all notorious for corrosion. You might take that bulb out and with a knife scratch the contact base a little and see if it works.

For the connections from the tow vehicle to the trailer, the connecting cable to the shore power, plus all the trailer bulbs, I use something like this ...

Thanks for the replies. I did not check the buld but it was a brand new one. Will try another. (2pk) The socket looks clean and shows no signs of corrosion. I do get power to the switch but none on the oppisite end going to the bulb.

OK, it was the switch and i replaced it but when i disconnected the light i don't remember which wire is the + and -. One wire is white and the other is white with a green line. Either way i hook it up the light works. I just don't want to cause a short. Does anyone know which it the + and - or if it even matters?

It doesn't matter

If you really want to know, use a meter.
Hook it up one way and you'll get 12v + and the other way will be negative 12v. Hooked up to read 12v +, the red probe will be touching + and the black probe will be touching negative.

I pulling for the white with green is the positive.
