I was going thru some old discs of pics and found this :sombraro:
from the 1st PUT rally

wow! I wasn't at the first rally, but there are some familiar faces in there ... skinny, aren't they? ;)
Ahhhh - good times!
I've gained some weight, and lost some hair.
I've moved halfway across the country.
I've finished raising three kids.
I've married off two daughters.
I've become a grandfather.
It was just seven years ago last summer, but oh, how it seems like a lifetime ago!
I can remember the shock on some people's faces. "You are going all the way to Tennessee to camp with people you met on the INTERNET!?!? Are you crazy?"
Yep, like a fox.
We got there, hadn't even reached the campground yet, just HAD to stop at the Lodge store in Pigeon Forge, and met this woman by the name of Marcy, who was also there for the rally...do you remember?

I sure do, I'm 7 years older, but still have a little bit of recall yet. ;)
I remember approaching you 2 and saying hi because you had on those infamous PUT name tags. You were buying a DO for PJ...if I recall she may have walked out with more than 1 . I bought my first DO there. You followed us back to the CG.
I got the same reactions from people..you are doing what!?
But we are nuts, and had a blast. It really was a week to remember.
We still have and use the Prodigy brake controller that I got at the silent auction.
Come to think of it, I think that's where we got the campfire tripod...IIRC, the one that you and your SO made...
Austin
I can't believe it has been seven years! That was one of the best trips we ever made, had a great time meeting everyone in person. My favorite was the night everyone gathered at our site.
You gotta post more pics, but just the ones from the times you actually had film in the camera
I really miss the good old days, I remember laughing so hard sitting here in this chair during the fireside chats.
WOW, that pic does bring back memories.
Dw and I still talk about that trip. Amazing how so many people that were complete strangers could get together and have such a good time.
In those 7 years:
Ds has married
Dd is now a school nurse in Vermont
Dw and I have both retired
Traded the Coleman Mesa for a Jayco 23B that was traded for a Jayco 28RLS. Put plenty of miles and camping nights on all of them.
We recently moved to Florida.
Life is good. :)

Isn't technology great, I don't need film now. :p
I didn't make the "gathering" as the fly fishing gang I hang out with had already made plans to be in Colorado and I believe we were there at that time, or traveling to or from.
But how about identifying those on the pix you posted. Those members who were on the original PUT board were a hoot! We had a lot of laughs together!

Done, added just below the pic... We sure did have the laughs..everyone was nice and loose and socialized on the board back then.

This was the motley crew I was hanging out with and that's me in the back on the far right.

Boy, Marcy, you still have a good memory even if you are seven years older. :)
"Nice and Loose", yup it sure got loose in the chat room. That was a fun place and I enjoyed being "the Mayor." Just sitting here chuckling remembering some of the "looseness" in the chat room.
Boy, were some of us addicted. :)
Not me, I was never addicted. I could have left the chat any time I wanted to. uh huh. I sure could have. I miss those days! When can we have a chat for "old times' sake" ??
Thought I'd check out the old PUT, and what do I find, LOL
Can't believe I figured out how to get my password back :D
Good to see alot of you still checking in.
That was pretty much the end of our PU life. Only used our PU 4 times after that trip.
Sold the PU the following year. Not because of the trip, that was fun.
But long car trips weren't a good idea for us anymore, healthwise.

The guy in front with the moustache - the one with his elbow in the air - I deny knowing him.

Dunno ~ the shock of anybody else showing up might damage the health of those still around :D
Can't wait to hear what Jeff's been up to ....
I miss chatting, too. Never addicted ~ just like Jan ~ I could stop any time I wanted. (But it would have been hard giving up the beer, wine, kisses and flowers!)

Quote from: Kelly;212607(But it would have been hard giving up the beer, wine, kisses and flowers!)
no wine, kisses or flower icons here...this'll have to do :!
Anyone remember how to start an AIM room that anyone can join in without an invite? Maybe we can get a new chat going. That way the non addicted like Jan and Kelly can get their non fix. :sombraro:
Funny this came up!!
Because;
I just saw Loyd the other day and thought about all you guy's when I saw him and Jack enjoying the lodge!!
How the HELL is everyone?
Boiled Peanuts and a ride the Cades Cove would hit the spot right about now!
Rick!!!
Wow! I haven't seen a bunch of you in a LONG time. ('cept for Kelly and I met her for dinner in July). I was even thinking about Loyd the other day and Rick ran into him. Amazing! :). Now, why do I keep thinking it would be fun to converge on the "Mayor" in February or so when the weather is crap in most of the U.S.

Sorry but the last week in Feb is booked with DS and DIL. March we will be "snowbirding" in St. Augustine. (How do you "snowbird" in Florida by going 45 miles north?)
However, the rest of Febuary is free. Sleep sofa and trundle bed would accomodate some and Tomoka State Park is only about 8 miles away.
WOW Rick too!! whos next BearBait ?:yikes:
Tell Loyd to set 'em up:!

Looks like a good group.

BearBait out of hibernation? That's just scary :p
How about Chas or Skip?
Figure out the POS AIM chat thing yet, Marcy?? ;)
Gene you need to get me your info, I tried to e-mail you a while back. So how has it been so far here in FL, I guess you kept the storms away this year :)
We are missing Tim, colleen, popapete, Diggs and a few others including dot-head (the lurker who signed on as a dot).
Let me know when the AIM thing gets going and I'll do my best to get on.
In just seven years, Holly has gotten a graduate degree, we've moved, had two children.
Seems like long ago.

How about the preacher? :)
I remember that picture. We all had a great time.
It's been a while since I have checked in here and look what I find.

Haven't been on this site in a while and was surprised to see a post about the first rally. What a great time we had.
Made a few more rallies but haven't bee to the last few or the last one.
If there is one in2010 I hope I can make it.
WOW 2 more out of the woodwork, guess a few of us still check in now and then. Harvey is that avatar pic Misty? She grew up!

Here was our first PUT rally from AZ in 2002.

Our DD was only 4 at the time. It was a great time to meet everyone and camp. We had camped a few times over the years but now everyone has either moved or have moved on.
It was a great time and great memories.

Marcy yes that's her. She was just a little over a year when tdhat was taken we were at Holly St.Park camping with friends.
We had a hard drive failure about 6 years ago and thought we had lost many of our pictures from the past. We purchased an adapter that allows us to externally plug in a hard drive to our other machine and I decided to try the bad drive. This is one that we had sent out to one of those companies that was supposed to have all sorts of specialized equipment to salvage files off of a corrupt hard drive. Well I pluged it in to the laptop that is running Vista and after about 5 minutes a message asked whether I wanted to fix the errors on the drive. It fixed the errors and all of the files were available. Technology continues to improve! Here's one from PopUp Times gathering at Douthat some time ago. Mark

It is snowing outside, and I am lurking on the web, checking out places I have not been for a long while. Surprise! I find the Tenn. Rally. We remember the rally well. Floating down the river on a tube was great fun! While checking out your photos, there we are Lynne, David and Phil. (P31010025; P21010015)
We have not been to another rally because of conflicts. I went to this site today thinking that a 2010 Rally might be in the works.
Thanks for the memories.
