Title: Rookie needs help with battery
Post by: hwkhaze on Feb 09, 2010, 07:14 PM
Hi all,
I bought my first pop-up a 2004 Palamino yearling and it came with a deep cycle battery and a battery box on front. Question is now what? How do I connect it and how does it charge?

Thanks

You should have 2 wires (or more) somewhere on the front. Just remember:

Black is Positive
White is Negative

If the black wire does not have a built-in fuse or cirtcuit breaker, you should install one.

If you find a blue wire (that's the brakes), put that on the + post.

When you plug the camper into 110V house or campground service, the camper's converter will charge the battery.

I'd like to add to wavery's good advice about the blue wire.  It should be from the battery's + post to a breakaway switch for the electric brakes, and then to the camper.  If you don't have a breakaway switch and hook the blue wire directly to the battery, then the camper won't roll, as the electric brakes will be locked up lol.

Also, if your camper (and tow vehicle) have the 7 way plug, then the tow vehicle's alternator will charge your camper's battery when you're driving.  It will also power your fridge in 12V mode if you have a fridge.
