Title: I have an idea. We need to have a reunion here.
Post by: CajunCamper on Mar 23, 2010, 03:05 PM
Over the years I have met some of the most incredible people on this site and I'm sad to say that I miss seeing all of them here on this site. Now I'm sure that Dave or whoever is running the site now has a list of emails of the folks that have become members and visited the site over the years. With the help of the site owners, we could set a date to have a virtual reunion/campout one night, or event dedicate an entire weekend to it. Pop up times could send out invitations to the email addresses that they have and we could see what happens. I think that if people got an invitation, they would certainly come by the site to visit and catch up with old friends. Does this sound like something you would be interrested in? We could also come up with a few activities and such just like we would with any campout. I think this would be fun and I think everyone that participates would have a wonderful time. I miss the friends I made here. Let me know what you think.

Cajun
I think that idea has some real possibilities. I check in to the site several times a day and have been scratching my head trying to figure out where everyone has gone to.  I stroll over to PUX just as often and there's much more going on there. I got to thinking that maybe it was a regional thing (PUT being largely left coast) but I can't fathom that's the reason, since there's just as many folks from places in the country other than out west. So, I'm still scratchin'. :eyecrazy:

Okay now we know we have the emails, now we need to brainstorm on how and when to do this. dkutz, are you interrested in working on this? We need some others to come along and offer ideas and assistance to make this happen. Who else is willing to pitch in?

Let's do this thing.

Sure in my spare time I would love to.

Can we get some of the site sponsers to donate prizes?
Can we do a virual poker tournament?  I know the perfect guy to head that...

Neat Idea Cajun Camper.
I'll admit I'm one of the guilty ones not visiting the site for some time this winter. When I did visit lately there isn't much new to read. A virtual campout weekend may get some more activity on the site.
I can help out with graphics or designing an invite if you need.

So why did everyone stop coming to this site?  Is it because of PUX?

Good idea CajunCamper...

I've been around PUT for about ten years now. A group of us here began chatting on PUT and decided on a central location, and met up in PA (eventually forming the COTOC club). I can remember telling some friends I was going camping with people I talked to - gasp - on the internet LOL!  Then I went to a PUT rally back in 2002, met Dave and a few other people I talked to here on PUT. It was lots of fun!

I check out the forum at least once a day, but I'll admit I'm guilty of heading right to the COTOC club section 95% of the time, since those are the main people I camp with / talk to.

There are many people I've met (and camped with) through PUT over 10 years, and sometimes around the campfire we'll ask "where so and so" went. I welcome the chance to re-connect with them.

It's this more complicated :compumad: site... less clique group though :D

I'm guilty also. The site seems to be missing something. It was a bit clique-ish before but now its just sorta cold. It doesn't have that community feeling, for lack of a better term. More photos might help. Maybe make it easier to upload photos? Or at least put up a sticky with a photo posting job aid? Yeah, that's it. It needs more photo filled trip reports. That's what I came here expecting to find when I joined, as well as info on trailer mods.

A reunion, how fun... how about Sunbeam Lake RV Resort :-()

okay, it's just a thought:)

I'm not sure what the deal is with lack of activity here, I'm looking into some ideas though.

Never been there. Then again, never been to El Centro at all.:sombraro:

Looks like a nice resort. Full service with every amenity. Is this one of those places that fills up with snow birds from Minnesota during the winter months?

Been to el centro for the trains, and we had fun, but man is it hot down there.  Defineatly not a summer rally.

I thought this was a "virtual Rally"?

We have been staying at the park since December 1st, and it is starting to get warm. I'm not used to 90 degree weather in April, on the one hand I love it.... on the other hand I know it's going to get much warmer and already we are working the AC overtime. I'm going to need some cooling strategies.

Yes, it is one of those places that fills up with snowbirders, at the moment it feels fairly empty. Most of the snowbirders have headed north. We have been here since December 1st, and January and February this place was completely packed.
