Title: Skips when lowering
Post by: clipper05 on Jul 02, 2010, 07:18 PM
I have a 2005 Coachmen Clipper and it skips when I lower it. It raises just fine. What could cause this and how can I fix it. Would really appreciate you input. Thanks.

Title: Change your springs...

We have a 2000 coachman clipper that did the same thing for 2 years.  Over that two years we replaced the winch 3 times because the problem was creating too much stress on the winch.  Last month we pulled down the lifter tubes and pulled out the pusher springs and found one of the springs was kinked in several places.  We ordered 2 new springs (the 2 springs are connected and lift 2 corners) from rvworkshop.com and replaced it.  We also used an entire can of grease on all of the springs.  This weekend we took it out and it came down perfectly!  After 1996 Coachman's have a Goshen Lift System so below I'll paste a link to the instructions and lift system diagram.  In hindsite I wonder if we should have just ordered the Goshen Overhaul Kit from Rvworkshop and been done with it, but the 2 springs did the job for now.  You'd be surprised how easy it was to replace the springs.

Diagram and instructions from Goshen:

Hope that helps.

I have it fixed for now. I was doing some research on here and it said that one of the cables could be tangled or wrapped up. It said to raise the roof a little more than normal and lower all the way. What this does is "reset" the cable and lift system. I did that and it goes up and down now without any problem.
Thank you very much for your reply and info and if something ever does happen to lift systems i can refer back to your links.
