Title: Welcome Back
Post by: dno on May 30, 2022, 04:24 PM
Hi Everyone, a few years ago I found the old PopUp Times forum data which I thought had been lost forever. I believed there is still a ton of relevant useful content so I put the forum back up on the web site. A handful of people were able to log in and post but I never really pushed reopening the forum, but I've been a bit disappointed in the stagnation and lack of forward movement on the sites I sold way back when. There seems to be very little interest in trying to improve the sites so they mostly seem like they have been left to decay. I decided I wanted to reopen the old PopUp times forum but at some point it stopped working due to the original forum software being out of date as the server was updated.

Now in 2022 and the forum no longer working and a decision to bring the forum back to life and find a new purpose for it. I decided to update the forum software to the latest version of the software used on PUX and RVitch. I wasn't really a big fan of the original Vbulletin software originally used here.

Moving forums from one software to another is a tedious task since much of the data tables won't line up from one software to another. Usually I can fairly accurately identify where the data needs to go in the new database. For my purposes here I was only focused on moving the memberships, categories, forums, topics and individual posts. I ignored things like locked topics, sticky topics, moderators, private messages etc...

Some things didn't move over as well as I would have liked, such as "last post" information on the various forums but overall I feel like the move was pretty successful. At least it's useable.

The most important data that could not be moved is the user passwords due to the different encryption used by the old and new software, however, the username and email addresses are there so you should be able to reset your password. If you don't have access to the original email address, feel free to contact me and I can help change that email address.

So once again, Welcome back, PopUp Times is now reopened for anyone that would like to join... or rejoin. Feel free to create new topics, posts or revive old ones. I'm open to suggestions on new forums or categories

Not really, it just took a long time to get the email to update my password.
Found a reply I made back in 2010!

I wasn't on this forum, but was on Pop Up Explorer. Great to have an active forum again, and I hope to see lots of names I recognize!

Welcome everyone.

Good to hear from you again Wavery, I have always liked the trailmanor... My sister wanted to get one at one time but they ended up with the Chalet instead. I miss my old Coleman Niagara. I think I had more fun with that than the other campers I have owned.

I'm guessing this site is open to everyone. I wasn't a member before but I have searched the site in the past for content which has been useful but was unable to join in the past. I tried to register but nothing happend this time I was able to get in.

This site was offline for years. Just revived by the owner, dno.

Before taking this site offline I had moved everyone over to the shared database from PopUp Explorer, RVitch and others before archiving the data and software.

I did put it online a few years back but never found the time to go through the software settings to see where registration stood, it was just before we moved to Phoenix to buy our current business. Now working 6-days per week time has been in shorter supply than before. I would still check every now and then to see if sites are still up and running which is how I discovered the forum was down. I'm not sure how long it's been exactly, but, If I had to guess I would say you must have been on before it went down due to the software being out of date.

I'm more comfortable with this new software anyway, so yes it's open to everyone, feel free to post.

FYI After I moved arvee club over to the PUX database, I moved the original forum back under the PopUp Times domain. When the new owners made to offer to buy the sites, they were only interested in PUX and RVitch. I actually wanted to keep RVitch but once they understood how the sites were connected they decided they needed to buy all the sites. They also had me sign a 3-year noncompete. With the noncompete I removed the forum link from PopUp times and connected it to PUX instead.

Somewhere along the line I had moved the PopUp Times site to a different server but must have forgot to grab the data and files for the forum because when I went to reconnect it after the three years It was gone and I could not find it in my archives either. I thought it was gone forever.

I did finally come across everything when I was not looking for it. I made sure to put it up immediately before I lost track of it again. That was 2019, and that ran until it didn't.

I didn't want to take the site offline, that noncompete obligated me to shut it down. In my mind that didn't have to be forever though.

Isn't it great when you find something you thought you lost?
It's nice to have another forum full of information. Traffic is much slower on PUX too, but again a wealth of info. I just wish the new owners would do some updating on PUX. The ad for Pop Up Times magazine is still running, the PUX store and more. I still push PUX and had to get my own flag and car plate. LOL

Am I going to have to get a new flag and plate?

I wish they would do something with it too, it kind of hurts to visit now. I expected they would change the software or do something to update the site. I don't see anything that would make me believe they want to grow or support the community. I don't mean to be hard on them, they have something that works for them and that's great, but I'm betting they could be doing so much better.

I enjoyed seeing your pics. I now have a large printer in my shop and can print signs and banners... Too bad I didn't have it back in the day

Yes it's nice to have another place to get info.
A PUX member in PA had the flag made, didn't use it much so he sent it to me. I ordered the license plate from an online place just a couple months ago. Used an image dno shared.

I thought about doing license plates, the only way I have to do them now is printing to and adhesive vinyl and stick them to the blanks. This is not ideal since the roll is 24" wide and the license plate is not which means there would be quite bit of waste. I have a few places that can do flags for me. The old PUX flags I had my mom sew up the blanks and then sent them to a screen printing shop to be printed.

I'm not sure how Charlie did the flag, but I sent him the PUX jpeg image I have. Pretty sure he used a screen printing shop. The license plate was less than $20 with shipping from an online store called Build A Sign. I used the same image but cropped it tight. It is a touch blurry if you get close, but I like it.
Actually I bought the license plate because the bumper hitch PUX cover someone sent me got broke. Needed some PUX ad on the TV. My Blazer had the PUX window sticker.

It's taken me a while to get back in, I couldn't get old password to work, and my primary email was broken. But it's working now!!

Very happy to Dno posting again!! And a lot of familiar names & handles here.

Sorry to hear you had a little trouble getting in. The encryption for the passwords is different on this software vs the old software. I'm glad you got it worked out. If it happens to anyone else, you should be able to contact me through the forum software, I can help.

I confess being rather amused at this site. I ship things in Dean's shop frequently and got to know him by talking about Teslas. I'm on my 4th Tesla and 2nd Model Y. Dean was telling my about his camping web sites and the pop-up campers. I confess I'm not completely sold on pop-ups, but, since I like camping Dean suggested I check out this site since the focus was on light-weight campers. Dean said he was thinking about adding an EV section since there are now some EV trucks and even a tow ability with my own model Y. I have watched the the site for over a month. Maybe this will help me figure out something I can tow that won't kill my range too much.

Welcome Model Y Guy. I'm also interested in camping with an EV. I'm very interested in the F-150 Lightning so I would love to see an EV section here, maybe it could be another niche. Dno what do you think?

Noice to have you here Model Y Guy. We are mostly about pop up campers, but we chat about many things. Dean has put together several great sites about camping, and I'm happy to see Pop Up Times Magazine alive again.

F-150 looks nice seems to be solid. I have a Cybertruck reservation maybe next year they will finally produce them.

4Campers, yes I knew this was a pop up camper site, Dean mentioned an expanded scope including camping with EVs. He talked me into joining, he said he needed more activity.
