Title: Canceled West Coast Trip
Post by: conncamper on Jul 24, 2022, 09:04 PM
Sadly we canceled our trip to California. We were suppose to leave last Wednesday for the three week trip but too many things coming together made the trip less and less appealing. Some of the top issues where of course the fuel prices which by itself wasn't a deal breaker but you add the record heat through most of the trip, the fires by Yosemite which was one of our must stop destinations. There were several other smaller things but it all added up to a very different trip than we planned.

While it was a hard decision to make and we are pretty disappointed, we are trying to look on the bright side. I get an extra week next year, I can set aside the money for this canceled trip to save for next year giving me another year to add to that fund. Of course we don't know what next year will bring, it could be worse, but hopefully things will be better. With the extra week we can add other stops, maybe the grand canyon will get added. Instead we are going to take a few closer to home trips while I'm on vacation. This weekend was Wells State Park in Massachusetts.

I can understand that, even with fuel prices falling it's still rather expensive. And even here in Maine we've had several days in excess of 90ยบ and humid.

Falling fuel prices is still much more expensive than it was a couple years ago. Looking at some of the prices in California is a bit scary though. We could still do the trip with the higher fuel prices we just have to cut out some less important things we wanted to do.

That's too bad, what other places where you planning to go?

That stinks, but if the trip was going to be full of things you were unable to do or see maybe best to plan for next year. Just after COVID hit the wife's family reunion was supposed to happen. Planned that trip the year before. Had to cancel lots of reservations.

I thought I was saving money buying my gas at BJ's for $4.59, then on the way home drove by a little Mom & Pop convenience & gas station selling it for $4.18....
