Title: Settled in....
Post by: GoneCamping on Oct 30, 2022, 03:41 PM
Now comfortably in Florida at Encore's Clerbrook Golf & RV Resort in Clermont FL. Big shady site under giant Oak tree's drizzling with Spanish Moss, and a view of the Fairway on the 10th hole! And looks like I'm going to be working Maintenance here, will know for sure this week. Stayed here 3 times last winter. There is a full 18 hole Golf Course surrounded by 1257 campsites in 3 sections. The place is huge!!

Link to PDF of campground map (I'm in site 752 near the 10th hole, underneat the letter "A" in Clubhouse Lane)....

That's good Cliff. Very nice looking site.
Working again? Money talks, doesn't it?

Well, guess I won't be working here after all. I stopped in last week and spoke with the Manager who said he needed a seasonal Maintenance person, and had an ad up for it. He provided me the listing number for his particular ad and asked me to reapply for the job.

I saw him today, and he said that he still wants to bring me aboard, but Corporate won't let him hire anyone. So I'm number one on the list here, I'm number 4 on the list at TT Orlando. I saw a new ad posted by Lake Magic today, so I immediately applied for that one, and will drive down there (half hour) and talk to the manager just to let he/her know I'm already in the area and ready to go.

Guess we'll see...

I'm not sure if "huge" is a big enough word!   I'll do some digging.... that may be more campsites than in all the  state parks in Oregon combined.   Yikes!  You could get lost for weeks in that campground.

Well, I got a call from Lake Magic this morning, and went in for an interview at 1pm. Looking good so far, but they are only talking 28 hours per week. I wanted 40, but maybe at my age working less is better!!!

Why a full week? It's time to relax some in retirement.
Many places go part time to avoid paying medical, 401K, etc. The CEO's need a huge bonus every year, you know?

Well, I don't think they are trying to avoid bennies, though it's a different park, it's the same company I've been working for two years now, and they know I'm seasonal, draw no Bennies, and that I'm technically retired.

They did call this morning, and formally offered me the job, and I accepted. And they are not offering me a camp site, so I'll have to continue to do the "Thousand Trails Two Step" which in here in Florida means I have to change parks every two weeks. They are going to help me get booked into their park every other 2 week period, and at TT Orlando the other 2 weeks (4 miles up the road), and they'll make sure I have "moving day" off so that I won't be under pressure for that. While it would be nice to stay in one park, this way they won't charge me a discounted seasonal rate to stay, I don't pay any nightly fee's to stay at Thousand Trails or Trails Affiliate parks (Encore's Lake Magic is affiliated).

Working again, huh? I suppose the extra cash is nice.
Sounds like a real pain to move every two weeks, but with a 5th wheel I guess it's not tough. By the end of winter you'll know all the good sites in both parks.

This is my 4th year doing the TT Two Step, I already know the parks and the best sites. Though moving every 2 weeks can be a pain, it's the price I have to pay for having zero cost per night camping!!

Not a bad price!  As long as you don't have to move in a storm....  And it keeps clutter from accumulating.

Well, they don't really put weather at the forefront, and my reservations are all made 4 months in advance. They can be accommodating when required though. For instance a couple years ago when they had the COVID lock-downs, they told us that nationwide none of the parks would accept any check-in's until the lock-down was lifted, but we were free to "Stay in place" until that time, so I wound up staying at TT Williamsburg for almost 4 months. We could come and go as needed, but if we yanked our camper out of there, there was no checking back in there or any other TT park.

And just recently, Hurricane Ian put TT Peace River in Wauchula FL underwater, so I had to cancel my November reservations there, and the reservasion center hooked me up with replacement reservations that actually "broke the rules" by giving me extra days at one park, and allowing me more than I'm supposed to get during "High Use Restriction" phase (Dec-15 thru April-1) we are only allowed 2 TT reservations and 2 TC reservations. I currently have 3 TT reservations on the books, a technical No-no....

The price is definitely right, no cost camping can't be beat.
It's nice they give leeway when weather forces a change. In hours it can change from what they forecast.
