Title: Arrived in Florida....
Post by: GoneCamping on Oct 31, 2023, 08:39 PM
I'm at Thousand Trails Three Flags in Wildwood Florida (TT3F). Wish I could report that there were no issues getting here, and when it comes to the new2me truck, that was very true. The Duramax ran well, smooth, had power to spare, and a whole lot less anxiety (as compared to this run in the old Dodge). Had 2 separate blow out's on the trailer, both on the right/curb side. First one blew out in Maryland, and the second one blew in North Carolina. Neither damaged the trailer too bad, and took me an hour on the side of the road to change them. Good think for me I had 2 brand new 12 ply ST tires in the back of the truck, so no real expense in getting them fixed. Now all 4 trailer tires are 12 ply instead of 10 ply.

And you are feeling extra-smart having an extra, extra spare!  Good planning!  Hope nothing else breaks.

Yep, aside from the basic spare tire, having those 2 extra's came in extremely useful. Giving myself a pat on the back for that!!!

Glad you made it to Florida! Couple of tire stops on the way, huh? Nice you had spares.
Staying at Three Flags for the winter, or moving around?

I'm at Three Flags for a week, then moving on to TTO for 3 weeks. I've got reservations all the way through the end of January, but hoping I won't need them. I went to a brand new RV Park in Ocala today called Champions Run Luxury RV Resort, to do an initial interview with their maintenance leader. He called me out of the blue the other day, I worked with this guy at Lake Magic last year and wants me to come work for him. I'll have to do another interview with the campground management, but I'll get the job because he's recommending me. It's a nice enough campground, but no shade anywhere. It opened 2 years ago, and they just opened their "Phase III" section last month. Pay is the same that ELS is paying me, but I get a free site, plus $150 per month credit towards my electric, and free WIFI. Cookie cutter sites, but can't beat the price.

My other alternative is to work for ELS at Thousand Trails Peace River in Wauchula, pay is slightly higher, but I'd have to pay $750 per month to rent a site plus electric. Lots of shady sites, and I know a lot of people that stay there, and even more that visit there. Money wise I'd be far better off in Ocala.

Decisions, decisions. Guess you have to figure in the money part. No shade trees in Ocala? On a sunny 100°+ day that might be rough.

Won't see 100º this time of year, but 85º is about normal, and it'll get cooler for a few months.

Nice. How's the temps been?

Today topped out at 88º which is too hot for me, and with only one a/c on the roof, too hot for my trailer too. Wound up putting reflectix on my 2 big windows that were facing the sun, I do get some afternoon shade so that helps some. Supposed to cool down into the 70's by Monday!!!

You can send any of that warm air up north!

This be the time of year I don't like. Cool in the morning, warm by afternoon, cool again by dark. And it gets dark way too early. The bad part is it's only the beginning of the dreaded winter cold and that white stuff. LOL
They say El Nino will affect the weather this year. If that means less snow here, I'm all for it!

Been a bit cooler the last 2 days, topping out low 70's, mostly overcast and occasional rain or drizzle. These temps are closer to "Normal" weather patterns for this area this time of year.

Thanks for sending some warm air up north! Calling for it to be near 70° today. That will happen from 3:30 to 4:00 PM!

Tim,
We're at under 10 hours of daylight.  I am not a fan of standard time.  It gets DARK way too early.

Dave-
Pretty much dark here by 5:30. I don't like having to mess with the clocks twice a year. Got to re-learn how to do it every time!

I wish they would leave the damn clocks alone too! I may have to move to Arizona or something. Congress keeps talking about doing away with it, but much like everything else Congress talks about, it's all just talk...

Wait until I start my "How to Reset Your Clock for Daylight Savings Time" business and Congress will change it.
Loved it when we lived in Indiana before they joined the rest of the country with clock changing. That got confusing though since I lived in one time zone and worked in another. I could leave for work at 8 AM and get to work at 8 AM. Going home at 5 PM meant I'd get home at 7 PM. The next 6 months we'd be on the same time.
I think Arizona is on DST now though.

I don't know which time zone Arizona uses, but I know they don't change it either!!

Arizona (except for the Navajo Nation) and Hawaii stay on standard time all year.

Alaska uses daylight time just to keep in synch with the neighbors (such as for doing business with Seattle).  It doesn't make much difference to them because it's either dark all the time or light all the time.

The weird federal law gives all states the authority to stay on standard time if they want, but they're not allowed to stay on daylight time.  I'm not sure how that made sense to whoever wrote it or voted on it.

I'd be ok with hibernating during the winter.   8)
