Title: Hello, introduce yourself here!
Post by: fivegonefishing on Sep 28, 2003, 07:05 PM
Hi gang thought I?d start a welcome to the ARVEE message board thread.  I know some of the new members joining ARVEE may not be new but then again, some may be!  That being the case, maybe a little popupography if you would, might be nice to help introduce us to each other. I?ll start:

Handle is fivegonefishing because there are five in my family and we all love to fish.
We started popup camping in 2002 using our new a Jayco Eagle 10SG
There is Me, DH, DD age 7 and twin DS,s soon to be 5
We live in Toronto, Canada and really enjoy camping in Ontario?s Provincial Parks.  Our goal is to try to camp in each park at least once, I think there are over 100 so, it may take a little time. I have met some great people through PUT and looking forward to meeting even more.

 So let?s hear from everyone!

fivegonefishingWhippetwrun is due to having 2 Whippets, both of which I have had to run after one time or another when DS has let them out the front door.[&:]

We tent camped a little before.  Then in July 2002, we got our Mesa.  Now DH, DS ( 96) and DD ( 99) are as happy to camp as I have always been.  Even the dogs enjoy it.  So now every time there is a free weekend on the calendar, the first question asked is where should we pick to go this time?  We even planned a two week vacation in the popup this summer.[:D]

PUT and the folks on this site have been and continue to be our saving grace in learning the ins and outs to pop up camping.  We really enjoyed meeting some of the PUTers at the PUT Rally last fall.

fivegonefishingOur handle is tatrtot as that is the nickname of our Cocker Spaniel Tate.

We got our popup (2002 Coleman Cheyenne) last August and just love it.  We are already planning all our spring, summer, fall trips.  We find that is the best thing about the popup as compared to tent camping.  We can easily go camping 3/4 of the year.

We are from Oakville, Ontario.  There is myself and DH, DD 4, Cocker Spaniel, German Sheppard and black cat.

fivegonefishingI am the most useless and the loudest of the board !

Never camped but burning with the desire to get a PU and start curing that problem !

Have a 98 Windstar which is almost ready to tow. As soon as I find a job I am buying a PU so fast , my head will be spinning for the next three days !

Oh, I have a DW (babette) , and a DS (13.9 )  and a DD (10 going on 17 !), who keeps bugging me to buy a PU already ! If you have an exta PU lying around, I will come and take it [:D]

fivegonefishingHey gnsmith -- We re from Springfield, Ohio, too!  Small world.

We ve camped in a tent on and off for over 30 years and got a pop-up last March.  We ve had a ball with it and feel we re in the lap of luxury (although seeing the PU in the new Pop-Up Times with a built-in oven and microwave gives me pause).  We have a son in Oregon and a daughter and grandson in Allentown, PA.  We ve avoided many mistakes by reading this board and learning from the experiences of others.  We dug the old dutch oven out of storage and have been having fun with it too.

 Life is good!

Post by: dee106 on Feb 03, 2003, 10:14 PM
fivegonefishingwell my nickname since i was a kid was dee, so it stuck, 106 that number or a combo of that number always pops up in my life, so i used it! my husband and i come from camping families, so i was always camping, we both  started out in tents in the 60 s stayed that way until the 90 s Got tired of the wet ground,so we got a used 1975 starcraft, basic unit. (that was in 1998) then DH fell in love at an RV show and we moved up to 2000 starcraft with the slide and the works!  my son loved it because he was getting to big for the full size beds, and we went to queen/king beds. Then my DH  was getting tired of folding it up in the rain[: (] all the time and we do a lot of camping, four full weeks a year and three weekends a month from April to November. So ! back to another RV show and guess what!  we fell in love with the 2003 starcraft sso travel star (hybrid) and was given the best of  all worlds, sleeping in a tent but not having to crank it up/down. [:D] so we looked around for a while to get the right price and trade-in and we got it this past October

We live in New York City, and we Keep this unit at a campground in NJ, about 50 mins away, so when we want a weekend get-a-way we just hop in the van and go, turn the key in the door and fold down the beds and we are home! and if its raining we leave the sides up and snuggly up on the couch bed....

fivegonefishingGreat thread and glad for an opportunity to get our feet wet with a post.  We are Newbees.  Seems like all we think about is  Time to go camping ... thus  campntime  for a username.

We live in E. Central IL and are longtime Coleman fans.  Most camping trips are wife and me, 2 sons..1 married which adds 2 grand daughters and 1 not but who brings a girl friend...plus 2 Golden Redtrievers.

Our family started with a tent, then on to a  79 Brandywine...then an 83  Seneca and as of late a  01 Bayside.  The old message board was a tremendous help getting us through a bunch of nusance things on the Bayside...but still think it is one of the greatest PU s out there.

Like a moth drawn to the flame, we could not stay away from PUT.  We subscribed with a membership about 10 days ago.  You are great people, we learn so much and there is a common bond to the outdoors here.  Great to be here!

fivegonefishingHi there!  I m Cyclone, as in Iowa State Cyclones (yes, I m an alumnus).  I grew up camping in a tent, and later 2 pop-ups.  Also spent 2 summers as a camp staffer....sort of camping!  By this time, my parents had sold the camper and I stopped camping for a while.  Finally bought a tent and have been tenting ever since.  Still a wanna-be, but that may change in a year or so!  My parents still camp (but not as often these days) in a  94 Palomino and they have decided that this summer might be it for camping.  So, the " negotiating"  is underway for buying the pu cheap!  (and, they will be allowed to borrow it if they want to, but that s a whole different thread [;)]).  Typically, I camp in state parks or COE parks (of which there are many within an hour of home).  Actually, I m only a mile or so from the lake.   Planning several trips this summer with TPUC and PUT friends; looking forward to that!  Camper dog (Jocie) loves to camp, too.  And, if it s football season you " might"  see a tv tuned into the Titans  games at my site.

fivegonefishingHowdy, I m Jim, also known as Miller Tyme. The user name comes from the fact that after camp is set up, what time is it? Changed the I to Y to avoid any lawsuits.[;)]
Any way, Linda and I are planning a late summer wedding, maybe one of our camping weekends. Christopher is my son by my second wife, and TJ and Tiffany are Linda s grandkids(she has custody of them). We also have two ferrets, Frank and Jr., who go with us occasionally.
This is our second pop-up, and we are looking at a 24ft TT and a seasonal site to put it on. We ll still keep the pop-up for weekend trips.[8D]
I m in the drywall trade(finishing and hanging) so getting weekends off takes a little planning. However, my boss has a 28ft TT, so most weekends I m gone, so is he.[;)]
I m registered on most of the camping forums. Being that it s winter here in Central Wisconsin, I have a lot of time to chat.
Just gotta keep thinking...only two more months![8D]

Post by: AustinBoston on Feb 04, 2003, 08:20 AM
fivegonefishingHello, My name is AustinBoston, and I am a PUTaholic...oh, wrong meeting.

Austin is my middle name, and was used by my grandfather as a nickname. (It s been in the family for generations, usually as a middle name.)  I added the " Boston"  first because on an early version of the board (prior to the Coolboards), someone had already registered Austin, and partly so that people would not assume I was from Texas.

My first experience with pop-upping were two trips where my folks borrowed my uncle s pop-up in the 1970 s.  When PJay and I married in  82, we wanted a pop-up, but kids and mortgages put that off. We planned a huge trip for the summer of  00 (that got put off until the summer of  01).  The plan was to take the whole summer off and travel the country.  When I started thinking about setting up and taking down a tent camp 30 or more times, it made me very weary.  Convincing PJay to buy the pop-up was easy.  Convincing me to buy the Bayside was not, but happy to say she won.[;)]

Beware, many of my posts are quite long, but I try to make sure they are well written, factual, entertaining, and easy to understand.  From the responses I get, sometimes I even succeed![8D]

One other thing, I carry an official " Always Right"  card, and as yet have never been wrong about anything.[: (]

Austin (who shouldn t always be taken seriously)

fivegonefishingHowdy, my name is Ian with my DW Lori (CatsMeow), and DS Logan.  My handle comes from once when I sang the song " rubberducky"  to dear wife in bed changing some of the words around to make it a bit naughty.  She said I was her " rednek rubber ducky" .  Shortenned it a bit and dropped the " y"  cause " ducky"  would just be silly.  I started camping with my dad when I was knee high to a grass hopper in the Adorondaks staying in lean to s, did the military style camping when I was in the military, and started camping with my exwife few years ago in a tent.  Had a monster 4 rm tent that we used once (took forever to set up), and it was miserable in the heat, and it rained that weekend which made it worse.  An older couple across from us had a PU, and had it set up in like 15 mins AND were grilling.  That was it...went to an RV show...liked the colemans, and that was all she wrote.  My DW likes it (hadn t been camping in 10 years till she met me), and loves to PU.  We have a favorite CG on a lake like 20 mins from us that doesn t take reservations, so it s easy to get a good spot, just have to get there thursday or friday.  We ll see how much camping we can get in this year with DW just back to work from being on dissability, and me being layed off since Nov.  We ll see.  Thanks.

fivegonefishingI am PI, (private eye, My kids used to accuse me of investigating everything...I still do.) It is also my CB handle. We are from Massachusetts. I grew up camping in an Apache pu. DH grew up with Camps. So when the kids were young we rented camps for quite a few years. Then got into using or borrowing  a PU. The kids have grown and moved on. We now own a 2001 Utah...big enough so they can still join us. My DH and I really enjoy camping and meeting new people.

fivegonefishing[font=" comic sans ms" ]Hoping the name is self-explanatory!  Couldn t come up with a clever username, so I used one I could remember!! [;)]
Started camping as a kid with my family ~ riding in the back of the pickup (under a topper!) with my 3 siblings!!  Always tent camped.
After the goose and I got married we sporadically attempted this camping thing....borrowing a tent, staying in Kamping Kabins and renting a PU before we bought ours last year.  We both love road trips and as the kids kept showing up (LOL) the hotels got a little TOO expensive.  Now we can road trip and afford it!  Looking forward to a 3-week trip to the southwest this year and a few get-togethers with our friends from PUT!  fivegonefishingIt sure is fun reading up on everybody here...for instance, we ll have to plan a virtual wedding shower for millertyme (!) and hey, gamecock, don t forget that Lou Holtz  real claim to fame will always be Notre Dame.

We re Kathy and Scott; I was born and raised on the southwest side of Chicago -- Scott in Oak Lawn.  I really needed to BREATHE so went to college in New Mexico and Colorado and then married and moved to Texas, hence texacokat.  Skied, camped, hiked, did all the great outdoors out west.  In between had 2 kids and a girl scout troop and cub scout den.

Finally came back to Chicago and had to divorce to meet and marry Scott!  (what a long, strange trip it s been)...Now, DD is in Manhattan studying at NYU and DS is limping through high school and counting the days til he can join that Army of One.

Looked and looked at PUs from 1998 til last summer and finally took delivery on our newest baby.  We can hardly wait til we full-time it, although with our jobs going sideways, we might be full-timing it when the bank takes over the house payments ha ha.

Looking forward to more fun trips this summer with the GLPUC where we ve met some really nice folks and have already plunked down the deposits on the sites we ll ve visiting in Colorado this summer.  Couldn t have done it without this PUT site!

fivegonefishingHey gnsmith & reallygreen, you guys may be neighbors and not even know it!
The ThunderRocks and I met thru the board, and we only live 7 blocks apart!!
 It s a small world.

Now back to the subject at hand.....
I came up with ForestCreature because thats where we camp 99.9% of the time.
And some may say I m an animal [;)]
We seek out the smaller rustic areas with 12 sight or less, the harder it is to find the more we like it. One of our favorite places to camp is in the UP.
We were life long tenters until 4 yrs ago when we fell in love with the Aliner. This is our first RV,and now wonder why it took us so long to move out of the tent!
We are not so empty nesters, a grown son who leases space in the house. He still camps with us occasionally in our old tent.
Impatiently waiting for the weather to get better so we can get back out and camp soon.........

We have been pop up camping since 1999 when we bought our pop up, but we both have been camping all our life.

We live in southwest Ohio and do most of our camping here in the state parks.

This year we have a new addition to go camping with. Noah will be a year old and we are looking forward to all the new camping adventures with him.[:)]

fivegonefishingThink I ve answered this a couple of times here, but, again for the newbies out there..Thunderfoot was my old CB handle (old way of younger driving days) and we bought a Rockwood camper last year.
Didn t like Rockfoot or Thunderwood, so, ThunderRock seemed logical. Someone told me that Ken was a little too plain; besides KenC & I were always getting mistaken for one another.

Funny thing, too, when I took on ThunderRock, someone here said that if they heard my voice booming out at a CG to some loud or rowdy campers to " keep it down" , they d understand!! LOL!!

fivegonefishingHi, I m garym053. That s zero five three, so you ll be able to tell me apart from the other 52 garym s on the board!! Actually the 53 is the year I was born, made it easy to remember!
Started tent camping at 44! Loved it! I was like a big kid, even enjoyed cooking in the rain! Started looking at PU s a year later, and bought a Jayco Qwest 10. We are empty nesters, Son and his family in Arizona, Daughter and her family in New Jersey, so we get out of the house as much as possible! We camp almost every weekend from Memprial Day through Labor Day.
We love to camp in State Parks much more than private parks. We don t need to be entertained nor do we have kids that need it. The wildlife sightings are usually better, and they are usually close to good hiking, biking or kayaking!

Post by: Popupnut on Feb 05, 2003, 04:55 PM
garym053I m Popupnut - Because I love the Pop-ups and am a genuine Nut!!!  I started camping a few years back with some friends in a tent - we quickly found out that we loved camping - just not tent camping especially with potty training tots!! So we decided that if we really wanted to camp with the kids it would be great to have a camper - so off we went shopping.  Shortly after that my Mom passed away and left each of my siblings and I just enough to purchase the camper - she would have loved the idea of family outings in a camper - it was an easy decision!!I left my husband with the decision on which camper and told him to have it picked out and in my driveway before I was done crocheting a King size blanket for the camper (I knew we would need atleast 1 King size bed (he s 6 2).  Otherwise I would roll him up in the blanket and toss him over the cliff (our house is on a mountain).  He came thru.  We are not usually so violent - but I really really wanted to start camping!!!!!  We have been camping ever since - made loads of friends who now join us on our camping excursions - we all camp in tents and campers and trailers - it s great fun!  I had the opportunity of meeting " mommamia"  last summer and that was the 1st PUT member I ve met - she is a blast and I know we will be camping with her and her family in the future.
I now make pop-up (and other variation) camper signs - it all started here and I am forever grateful to PUT and Dave for the support and enthusiasm I have expereinced on this board.
I ve been with this board since the CoolBoards and have met some wonderful wonderful friends who although I have not met in person yet - I absolutely cherish via cyberspace!!!
And AustinBoston thinks he s longwinded!!!!  Pfew!

garym053My dh and I had been tent camping since we first met and continued the tradition with our kids (ds-9 and dd-6).  A year and a half ago while tent camping our air mattress went flat once again and that was it, we started shopping for pop ups.  We wanted to be able to camp more often, off the ground and without the hassle of packing.

We found PUT when I was searching for a used pop up on the internet and got loads of info about weight, brands, tow vehicles, etc.  We checked out a few used pop ups and started visiting dealers on weekends.  The next thing I knew we had a brand new 2002 Coleman Mesa. We LOVE it.  The whole family looks forward to the next trip.  Even our 12-1/2 year old lab gets very excited when she sees the pop up hooked up.

Chez Way is the name of our pop up.  Chez (shay)=French for little cottage and Way= our surname.

garym053My DH (Firefyter_Emt) and I started PUing a few years ago.  After a real bad camping experience on the Cape with rain, and sand and sunburn - I said, " No more tents!  If you want to go camping so bad, I want something a little more like home."   Hotels/Motels are OK, but there really is a tendancy to veg out in front of the TV, etc.  This is NOT what I want to do on vacation!  A pop-up gave me that sense of always coming back " home" after a long day trip, no body is coming into there to clean/make beds.   There is definetly a level of privacy.  I don t enjoy every aspect of camping, and it doesn t always seem like a vacation w/ three kids along, but I really enjoy being outdoors, campfires, and traveling to places I ve never been without breaking the bank!  Also, you can t beat the new people you meet and become friends with! Post by: Horscampr on Feb 08, 2003, 12:09 PM
 fivegonefishingOk, Nice thread[:)]

Horsecampr describes me, .....or rather my two passions (can you guess what they are?).

I am a single girl with a love of the outdoors, camping, horses and all things that are created by nature.  As far as camping goes, I am still very much a newbie and still learning.  I will be going on my 3rd summer of camping this year.  The first year, I tent camped and loved it (some of my best memories are from that year).  When that summer drew to a close, my last camping trip was at a county fair with my old college roomate and very good friend.  She had an older PU and we camped in that, thus spurring my love of PU s.  The entire time I camped that week, I kept telling myself "  I HAVE TO HAVE ONE OF THESE."   Shortly after that, I found PUT s and became even further hooked[:D].

Last summer, I purchased " Poppy"  my 31 yr old PU.  I spent many hours with my father fixing her up.  She s still a work in progress, but I am enjoying the challenge.  Her previous owners replaced the canvas and redid the interior, so along with the extra work I m doing, she s getting better and better.

My other passion (if you haven t already guessed) is horses.  I have a 15yr old Standardbred ex-harness racer that I adopted when his racing career came to an end.  He bares many emotional and physical scars from his racing days and is now living his life in a loving home. I no longer show horses or ride in any specific discipline (I acutally prefer bareback whenever possible).  Unlike my camping knowledge, my horse experience spans 23 years of riding and training.  My interest lies with horse psychology and Natural horse teaching.  My future goals in this area are to become certified through Parellli Natural Horsemanship (at least through level 3) and to continue to work with horses that are emotionally scarred (and sometimes regarded as " dangerous" ) because they are misunderstood by their owners.

My current equine partner and I are in the process of planning a week long camping trip together for the summer of 2004.  Transportation issues make it difficult for us to camp together very often and make it necissary for our trips to be planned WAY in advance. Aside from this, my other camping companions include friends and family (my mom has become addicted to camping as much as me!!!!!!!).  I also occasionally camp with my two dogs.  Mandy is a German Wirehaired Pointer and Gus is a Sheltie.  I share " custody"  of them with my mom and dad, but I know they like me best because I take them camping hehehehe....

I am hoping to have a web site availabe for Natural Horsemanship and Pop-up camping by the end of this summer.  It will have many awesome links for camping and horses as well as pictures of my " experiences." [:)]

Post by: scpreacherswife on Feb 08, 2003, 02:16 PM
garym053Speaking of long-winded... That should have been my screen name.....[&:]

Any, I got my screen name because my husband is a preacher in South Carolina.  How original.  Hey, I can remember it anyway![:D]

Most of our vital stats are in my sig. line.  I guess the other info should be that I was raised popup camping.  ALWAYS loved it.  After DH and I married in  81, we tent camped as much as possible, but it got harder and harder after the kids came and with a limited schedule.  Motels/hotels were tight on a already tight budget.  Naturally, I began my case long ago for a popup, and we started @ 4 years agp looking for the " right"  one at the right price.  PUT was a God send when I found it @ 2 years ago while searching for the right pop up.  Husband had never popup d, and since my parents old beloved Jayco was rather simple, it was a new and foreign world to DH and I on the newer options, etc.

Finally, last March we found a " vintage"  - NOT OLD - Coleman  86 Plantation series Savannah, complete with oven, air, furnace, 3 way frig AND BEST OF ALL true bathroom-with WALLS. [:D] It really eats up the living space, even on a big 17  box, and is extra work to set up, but to us it s worth it.  Our only negative is full size beds instead of queen/king, and it will need a new canvas next year.  We will be comparing Canvas Replacements and Bear Creek on that soon.  For when the kids outgrow the beds or want to bring friends, we have a little " popup"  tent and plan on buying a screen room w/ privacy panels from Weimers RV in PA soon.  Great people w/ great prices on " vintage"  replacement items for Coleman Campers.  And no, I don t get paid for saying that.   Hey, wonder if it could get me a discount.....[;)].  John @ Weimers, are you reading this?  Guess where I learned @ them?  Yep, Here.

Looks like we are real close neighbors of Gamecock Camper.  Maybe we will meet soon-maybe even @ the SC RV show next Sunday![:D]  By the way, GO GAMECOCKS!  and gotta love LOU....my girls and I are big USC fans.  Unfortunately, my husband and son are still a bit confused and remain Clemson University fans[: (].  [:)]

I tend to mostly lurk and learn, but every once in a while I come out to seek wisdom.  I have " met"  many amazing people on the board, talked @ family history, Waterfall seeking (GOTTA LOVE IT), campgrounds and mods.  I havwe always gotten the BEST info from here.  When DH found out how obsessed I was w/ the whole Pop Up Times world, he used to make fun of me.  Now that he has one of his own, guess who s obsessing[;)] !

Since this will be our first full year officially Popuping, I look forward to making lots of trips.  We camped this winter in the mountains of SC/NC -cold but FUN!!  This year we will probably stay close to SC due to schedules.  We couldn t camp much last summer and I lost all my vacation and sick time from work staying home sick w/ a rare kidney disease.  I m in remission now, but don t have much time built up.  Our difficulty/blessing comes in the form of me working MOn-Fri., while DH s bussiest day being Sunday.  We plan on tag teaming this year-He goes and sets up during the week, I join the family Friday til Sunday while he goes home Saturday evening and then returns Sunday PM late or Monday- when I return for work.  When we can we stay close enough to drive back & forth on Sunday.  We only live 1 hour away from Charlotte NC and Paramount Carowinds and have yearly passes.  This year we plan on camping there alot.  Never been but hear it s nice.  If time and finances permit, we would like to make the Fort Wildermess/Disney trip this next Fall or Winter.  Well, thats my info, past, present and future and probably way more than you wanted to know[&:].

 Happy Pop-Upping!!![8D]

garym053My DH and I have been camping since about 1982. Tenting first, of course,  and then graduating up to a popup in 1994 when we bought a used  86 Jayco from my cousin. I fell in love with real beds and A/C, after all Tx gets a bit hot in the summer (naaww! You think!). We used that old Jayco 72 times in 8 years ( I keep a log of each trip).
Then last year we bought my brothers  95 Rockwood. It was such a good deal we couldn t pass it by.[;)]
We love to camp from September to June- at least once a month, sometimes more, averaging 10 camp trips a year.
My " handle"  comes from my love of astronomy (after camping of course!) and I am an art teacher- hence- Starryart.

fivegonefishingHi all - we were on the old board & are happy to be on this new and improved model.  Screen name is fairly obvious - the name is Fox & there are 4 of us.  Not too original.

Let s see, I grew up camping in a pop up, my folks didn t get a hardside tt until after I was married I think.  My DH did some tent camping but not a tremendous amount while growing up.  As a couple we tented for awhile, b4 kids [&:]  When the oldest was about 6 & the younger one about 2 we got our first pop-up, a Jayco 10UD.  A couple of years later the big old Coleman Bayside beckoned us...[:)]

Now, we love to head out as many weekends as possible and usually a full week trip somewhere (SD, WI, IA).

Cyclone - if you re checking this - we re both ISU alums & are happily living back here in Ames after a stint in Michigan.[:D]

 Chuck -  64
 Cait -  93
 Meg -  97

Hope to see you all camping sometime!

garym053As most of you are aware, my name is Cliff, and my screen name is an extension of my website (Gonecamping.net), we had to add in the hyphen (-) because someone else had the name without it.

I m a Mass native and grew camping with my folk s who first had an old Apache PU, then upgraded to a Starcraft. I now live in Virginia, and have tent camped for years, but eventually found the need to get a PU myself. I m now on my 3rd Pop-up and admittedly looking at bigger things (yep, the darkside). I m into camping and NASCAR (which go together really well), too old to say how old, and ummmm, recently single? My niece (8) and nephew (12) live here with me, and usually go camping with me. I ve been a member of PUT for quite a while, and also a moderator at another popular forum (iRV2). And somewhere between all this, I manage to work full time too!

Oh, and for us, the tree s will probably start budding in 3-4 weeks, spring is closing in fast! Almost time to dig out the PU and get it ready for another season of fun!

fivegonefishingWell, my handle came from a long story. We have 3 kids and we are fairly new to camping. I found PUT before I even bought a popup and have been hooked on it ever sense. We live in South Louisiana so we can pretty much camp anytime of the year. We purchased a 1978 Apache Ramada for 300 dollars and have been in the process of restoration ever since we bought it. I keep thinking I need to put it up on the board but have been to lazy to do it. Well thats about it for us. Thanks to all of you for your great advise.

garym053Hi, I m Linda! and my DH (jackgoesthepopup) were married in Sept. 01.  I had tent camped with my girls and Tim did Civil War re-enactments in I think a pup-tent.  Last jan.  I got the urge for a pop-up.  I found the old put board and hence the handle - iwantapopup.  Finally in May last year, I found someone selling an 82 Palomino Colt for $50.  DH brought it back from IN and we spent all summer restoring it.  We got 2 trips in last year before it got cold.

This year we re debating what to do.  Our pop-up is really too small for all of us.  I have 2 daughters and a granddaughter and sometimes all 5 of us go; plus we need a new canvas so we re keeping our eyes out for another deal.  If not, we may try to patch the canvas for 1 more year.

garym053Hello there.  I see this thread everytime I log on, but never thought to post to it, just read it for the first time and decided to get into the swing of things.

Most of you know me from the old board, my screen name is an ojibwe word that means  fat woman .   I found PopUpTimes when DH and I were looking for a camper, and I needed advice on the various models, prices, and features.   I ve been hooked on this place ever since.  We started camping when our kids were little, and tried just about any method of camping you can think of, then someone loaned us their popup for a trip to Fla and we knew we had to have one.   All my other info is in my profile, so you can look there, nothing special to say,I m just a normal  cult  member (if there is such a thing).

garym053Name s startx - cause when I first joined three boards ago we were on our second starcraft and we live in texas.  Now I have to use that handle, because that is what everyone knows me by. [:D]

Let s see we are now big Flagstaff fans, since we have one!  We tent camped for about three years pretty regularly until we bought our very first pop up, a 1980 Starcraft Starmaster.  She was stolen, and replaced by the 1990 Starcraft Meteor, and we sold that one to mom for the much larger more posh 2000 Flagstaff 822 we have now, which we absolutely love!

There are six in the family right now, we seem to gain a kid to raise or help, about every six months or so lately.  We are Brian (68), Barbara (72), Darren(84), Kaleb(93), Kaitlind(96), and Kayleigh(02).  I state we are six now, because we may gain another kid next month if another one needs adopting that we are expecting to make an appearance in March, and that will add one from 2003 for the signature line.

Anyway, thought I would post here to let people know I am back, and hopefully can be more active than I was last fall.

 garym053Helloooooo

The name cavman came from my association with Job s Daughters (a young ladies Masonic group).

The year I was the male member of the leaders, my female counterpart had a tag on her car which was " GORGEOS" .  I didn t have a personalized tag but one day at a gathering, someone saw me in my bib overalls, brogan shoes, beard, long hair and tee shirt and said that the only thing missing was the club " like a cave man"  would carry.  Wellllll, my DW instantly hit on the tag to be the opposite of " gorgeos"  would be " CAVeMAN" .  Since the full spelling was already taken it was shortened to " CAVMAN"  and has been my truck tag ever since.[:D][&:]

Now, DW was the baby of the family and having two older sisters, she was called " BABYSISTER"  by the family and it came to be her CB handle and thus the name here on PUT.[:)]

fivegonefishingHello all [:D], I had been on the old forum and made it to 500 posts before the changes where made.  I was not sure if I was going to continue because my wife always laughed when I was on, more on that later.  Anyway, I am not sure how to take it but for Valentines Day, she signed me up to poup times again so here I am.

The reason that she laughs at me is because for the past year the popup has been parked in the yard except for the 2 times friends used it.  The reason it is park is, after 11 year of popupping, we went seasonal to get even more camping in.  We currently have a 34 foot X 12 foot park model, Canterbury.  I still have the popup in case I want to travel.  We can now get away for part weekends if we are doping other things.

fivegonefishingNothing original about the screen name.  First name and first letter of last name.

We have been camping about 15 years now and are on our 4th popup.

DW and I are both teachers so we have had the luxury of being able to do some long camping trips when the ds and dd were younger.  Longest trip was 49 days, NH to Washington state to San Francisco and back to NH.  We have covered 30 plus states.

A lot of the fun of camping has come from finding this board and finally meeting some of the members last summer in Tennessee.  Great bunch of people.

garym053Nothing really complicated here. I like it easy when I camp. I wanted to relax  and enjoy the nature and E-Z life. Pop-up is the way to do it.

My dw  introduced me to pupupping. She did it a lot in her younger years and told me all about it. Finally, after ds came into this world, I accepted to get a brand new popup and try. Found it real fun and relaxing.  I did a lot of researching on PUT and learned from all your experiences.

I tried very hard last year to be in Pennsylvania but couldn t do it.  I ll try this year if I can.

 Looking forward to it.

I am married to AustinBoston, and we have camped continuosly in some fashion ever since we were married in 1982.
While planning a summer long trip, Austin decided that setting up and taking down a tent would not be fun. Knowing Austin as well as I do, I agreed that we would enjoy camping much better if he wasn t miserable and angry.
The Bayside was chosen after a double visit to a camping show.  One with kids, to get their opinions...Second to do the nitty-gritty work of pricing and accessorizing.
Love my dutch ovens and all food over a campfire.

EZCamperOK, I am going to take a deep breath and do this!  I have never posted a message on this new board -- I probably posted one or two on the old one.  I saw my behavior most appropriately described by Horscampr, I think, when she said she mostly just " lurked and learned"  -- that s what I do!

I am from Milford, OH -- a bonafide " little old lady" .  I never camped until the summer of 2001.  Sometimes I wonder if I have lost my marbles (one of my kids wonders that too) -- starting to camp at this late date -- but, Oh, well!

My husband and I loved to travel with our grandkids but we always stayed in motels. Then two years ago this month he moved on to a better world and left me here to figure things out for myself.  I still wanted to travel with my grandkids but on a tighter budget, so I bought an Olds Silhouette and my grandaughters and I would take off, find a nice campground, take the middle and back seats out of the van and sleep in our sleeping bags on the floor.  We liked it so I bought a Coleman Westlake.  I have never camped alone and am a bit afraid to do so -- I can use all the encouragement I can get!  I do have several trips planned this summer with my grandkids -- they love to camp and we have a wonderful time together.

I have a dog -- I believe the politically correct way to say it is a " mixed breed"  -- she s a mutt and a wonderful one at that.  She is a beagle, border collie mix along with many other things I suspect and she loves to travel.  Her name is Chrissie because I got her around Christmas time and that seemed to fit.  I have a cat -- his name is Lucky because I found him lost, dirty and hungry on the 13th of July -- his lucky day.  Mine too, I guess!  My signature is not at all original -- just the first letter of my first name and my last name.
I was once retired but am working again -- to keep myself busy and in traveling money.
I love the Popup Times board because I enjoy reading what people write and I get a good laugh every now and then.  My most recent chuckle was when I read NightOwl s description of her cat s behavior!

There -- I finally overcame my intimidation and am ready to post my first message -- I feel like such a big girl!!!

garym053We live in Illinois, out in corn country far enough away from Chicago so that we are not affected by it but close enough to be able to enjoy many of the great things it has to offer. My wife and I were both tent campers before we met and then were still tent camping until we had kids. It just seemed like it would be so much more convenient to be able to have just about everything you needed for camping already loaded into a comfortable sleeping area, so we bought a popup. We have really enjoyed it and I am so glad to be off the ground when camping. Although I still camp in a tent when I go out with my son s Boy Scout Troop(I bought a cot...).  http://www.troop3bsa.org  We are very involved in Scouting, both Cub and Boy Scouts. We have two wonderful (especially when they are sleeping) boys ages 7 and 12. Our first camping trip for 2003 will be in sunny Florida. We are going to Amelia Island for Spring Break. Wish I had more time to spend here at PopUp Times, but there is just always so much going on. Hope to see everyone around the campfire...

PJayOur name was originated from our last name how many is in our family and our hobby of camping!  Our last name is beers!  No six pack for us, so that is how we ended up with camper4pack!
We are campers in a pop up for 10 years and tented for 5 years prior to that either in my husbands truck S-10 or in our Dome Tent.
We live in Connoquenessing, PA which is about 30 minutes north of Pittsbugh.  My husband Steve and I have been married for 16 years this July.  We have 2 wonderful children:  Laura age 13 and Charles age 10.  We just bought our new popup last year at the RV show and it is a 2002 Coleman Utah.  We love it, it has so much room with the slide out.  We have DD on the end by the heater, DS sleeps on the pull out bed/couch, and we sleep on the other end by the galley.  It really is a great camper!  [:)]
Our first camping trip this year is planned for Brookdale Family Campground

fivegonefishingI was very surprised to see that my DH had not introduced  us yet, so I guess I will do it.  David and I have been married for 16 years and have two children, DD 12 and DS 10 years old.  DBG happens to be both mine and my hubby?s initials and our newest hobby is camping - hence DBGCAMP.

We have been camping for about 3 years now.  Our first camping trip ever was a canoe camping trip on Indian Lake in the Adirondacks with the kids (then 9 & 6) and DH?s sister and her husband.  After that experience it is hard to believe  that we continued camping!  The campsite was on an island about a 45 minute paddle from the launch, so everything we needed for the two night trip had to  fit in the canoe with the four of us - I am amazed at how much you can fit into an 18 foot Sundowner!  The first day was great - we had an island all to ourselves.  It was August, so we went swimming, the kids did some fishing and a lot of exploring.  Everything changed when night fell!  We did not expect the temperature to drop to 35 degrees at night in the summer and were not prepared!  Needless to say, between the fear of marauding bears, DD crying about the daddylong legs on the outside of the tent and freezing, no one got much sleep! ( oh yeah, DS also wet his sleeping bag that night!)  We decided to leave the next morning, but not after coffee and breakfast around the campfire.  That hooked me - it is still my favorite time of the day when we go camping - especially when the kids are still sleeping!

For the last two years we tent camped and bought our first PU this past September - 1990 Coleman Alta in near mint condition. The previous two owners took very good care of her!

We are really looking forward to our first season in our PU and already have 3 trips reserved.  We also take our 3 year old black lab, Grace, when we camp. She seems to enjoy it as much as we do now that she has her own camp chair to sit in around the fire!

 PJayWell, 67_Skamper = 1967 Skamper.

I have camped in this camper since I was 7years old when my Grandparents bought it new, they then sold it to my Parents, who they gave it to me and DW for a wedding present.

The Skamper has been in very state of the nation east of the Rockies, has gone thru two canvas tops, two lift arms, to many tires to keep track, three sets of wheel bearings.

The paint job was added this past summer, we try to camp at least twice a month from May to October.

DW and I are both United Methodist Ministers so all of our camping is Thursday thru Saturday.

We camp with our Kampping Kitty Grayson, who love to set in the bunk ends and watch the wild life go by.

PJayI m a Rambling Wreck from Georgia Tech.  The expression began with alumuni who traveled abroad (South America I believe) and built various contraptions, usually not very elegant but functional.  The name just fits me.  After graduating from Georgia Tech I traveled extensively professionally and Rambling fits my writing style.  If you ever saw my desk you wouldn t question the Wreck part.  Finally the intitials, RW, are the same as my given name, Robert Watson.

Both my wife and I are originially from southern Georgia.  We have have two lovely children both born here in New England.  My dry sense of humor helps me fit in up here.  DW and I still get the comment, " your not from around here"  when speaking to locals for the first time.

We got a tent to take the children camping and they loved it.  DW and I got an accute case of popup envy last summer.  Had to do with some rocks that kept finding their way under our bedding and the lack of a few other creature comforts and privacy.

With the assistance and advise from members of this board we purchased a Starcraft Centennial 3600 this weekend.  We can hardly wait for the spring thaw so we can take delivery.  Hope our trails cross at a camp ground in the not to distant future.  It would be nice toput some faces with names.

PJayYesDear seems to be something we are always saying to each other, (in a loving way!) so it just seemed appropriate because we have said it more since buying our Pop Up.
We live in Anaheim, CA.  Duane was born in North Dakota, and moved to CA when he was 4 years old.  Michelle was born in CA, and has always lived here.  Duane is retiring the end of this month after being a police officer for 30 years, and will start his new career 3 days later.  We have 2 grown sons with families, and are blessed with 2 beautiful granddaughters ~ one in Mission Viejo, and one in San Jose.  Michelle has had the wonderful opportunity of babysitting our oldest granddaughter (16 months) everyday, since she was 3 months old.
Both of us camped as kids with our parents and families ~ Duane in a trailer, Michelle in a camper.  When our sons were young, we tent camped and did 4-wheeling every summer in Utah for many years, near Zion National Park.  Duane also did a lot of tent camping and hiking with our son s scout troops.  Duane still does annual backpacking/hiking trips, and has been to the top of Mt. Whitney 3 times.
It has been probably 13 years since we have camped, until this year.  Two years ago we were introduced to the exciting adventure of camping in a Pop Up!  Friends had invited us to spend a few days with them at Capinteria State Beach ~ them in their Pop Up, and us in a nearby hotel.  We spent the days with them at the beach, along with 2 other families, then went back to our hotel talking about their trailers.  Over the next year & a half, we would talk about getting a Pop Up, but Duane kept saying we should rent one first to see if we would even like it.  We started shopping around, then went to our first RV show last October.  Prices were great at the show, and we bought our Starcraft that day.  We never did rent one just to see if we would like it!
We are enjoying our Pop Up, and have done a few things to make life a little more enjoyable while camping.  We have gotten a lot of helpful information from the old message board, and the new one, and enjoy the camaraderie we see between members.  Had to laugh out loud several times when reading the topic about Pop Up s being " money pits  ~ and we thought we were the only ones that felt that way!  We have purchased many things (thanks guys!) because of everyone s suggestions on what to use for leveling, cooking, sleeping (yes, we have hard mattresses also!), storage, and all the other items that go along with stocking our " home away from home .  We don t know what we would have done without all the invaluable information we have received from member postings.
We are kicking around the idea of trading in our Tacoma Double Cab for a new 2004 Tundra later this year ~ as it is coming out with 4 full doors, and would like to have a full-size truck.  Always something.....
We look forward to many years of fun and adventure in our Pop Up, and getting to know the members at the Pop Up Times website.

PJayWOW was great reading about everyone!

I started on this board last spring when I had bought I rockwood PU. I found the people here friendly and willing to answer the numerous questions I had about repairing a lift system and also any other questions I had so I stuck around.

I am Shirley T. That is my name (no the T does NOT stand for Temple as birol seems to think [8D]). I have one daughter who is 11. We started camping around 7 years ago but stayed in cabins at that time. We always went on camping trips with my aunts family (aunt and uncle have 9 children and now have 9 grandchildren). We graduated from cabins to campers, they did, I used a borrowed tent. I finally invested in a tent of my own when my uncle and aunt bought two lake lots and I would be camping more than just one week a year.

Last year my uncle bought another lot and told me I could put something on it so I started looking around for some type of camper. I came across the rockwood and quickly bought it. I worked hard on trying to fix it up and getting it ready for the lake but it was becoming more than I could do by myself. I went to Tunica Mississippi on a trip and joked that if I won enough money I would sell the camper and buy a building. WWWEELLLL......I didn t win any money in Tunica but 12 miles from home I stopped an Indian Casino and won $1900....SSOOOO...I got the cabin (it was $1904).

Since I love this place so much I have stayed here and had no problems with paying a membership even though I don t own a PU anymore. My daughter and I frequently talk about getting another PU in the future and also a tow vehicle since a Chevy Metro barely pulls my fat butt around [8D].

Anyway that is my story in a nutshell (maybe a coconut shell [:)])

PJayI too have been a lurker.  Found this message board late last year after I had talked my DW into a PU.  I used to tent camp and my DW absolutely would not sleep on the ground so the PU was the compromise.  Bought a  00 Coleman Mesa last fall and got to use it three times before we had to winterize it.  (Thanks to this board, it was alot easier).

As my handle says, We re from Catonsville MD.  Just west of Baltimore.  We are empty nesters.  With a granddaughter on the way.  But just like the PU, I talked my DW into getting a dog and now she s hooked on the dog and the PU camping.

PJayWe also found PUT when we were looking for a camper.  Our daughters swim on a couple of swim teams and my DH is also a swim coach, so a good time for us has to include camping and lots of H20.

He s a big city guy and I am a Hoosier raised  far from the city, but both our families raised us camping.  We have been lurking for over a year and finally decided to take the plunge and join....and we are glad we did.  We are still newbies with our PU and owe everyone alot of thanks for the wonderful information (like winterizing the DAY before it snowed...ooops)  and friendship........

The girls are jazzed  cause we leave for Fort Wilderness this weekend! Make room at the campfire!

PJayHello everyone!  We are campers that love to boat as well.  It s tough in the summer to decide which to do.  Our favorite place to camp and boat is a lakeside site at Seven Points Campground on Raystown lake PA -- the best of both our worlds! [:D]

Hubby is an auto technician for a living, a volunteer firefighter/EMT for " fun" .  I m a computer programmer and mother.  We have TWO beautiful daughters.  DD1 is 5 and LOVES to camp and boat.  DD2 is only 3 months old, but I m SURE she ll love to camp and boat this year -- she s just so easy going.

We ve planned several trips this year already and are looking for a few more weekends to plan.  We re going to Raystown lake twice, Knoebel s at least twice, Spring Gulch twice and Lake-in-wood once.  Who knows where else we ll end up.[8D]

Nice to meet all of you!  Keep an eye out for my bumper sticker to find me!

 fivegonefishingHi
We are Rich and Jackie. We have both been campers since childhood. We grew up together dated for about 6 weeks when I was 18 and Rich was 21. We went our separate ways meeting back up 25 years later when my mother told me to contact Rich. 9 months after reuniting we married on his 46 birthday July 1999. So yes he will be 50 in July. His first marriage my second. Marriage was easy, becoming a dad of a 16 year old daughter was not as easy. Now almost  4 years later, she is married and has moved to St Louis with her husband. My oldest will graduate North Texas University in Aug and hopes to move back east.  She will be married to her high school sweetheart May 2004 hopefully in Richmond, Va. Just begining planning.
We tent camped  until Rich and I bought our 1st Pup-up about 3 years ago a 1996 Coleman Cheyenne which after many modifications and getting it just how we wanted it we sold it because it did not have some creature comforts I wanted. So we bough a used 1998 Grandview  which is the equivelent to a Niagra without a trunk. It was Coleman s top of the line for 1998.  It has A/C, furnance , shower, potty, hot water, 3way frige, slide out dinnete. And we LOVE it. Then last week we bought a new wonderful tow vehicle. A 2003 Chevy Sileverado Ext cab 1500. We  just got back from completing our first adventure with the new tow vehicle and we wonder why we didn t buy a new vehicle sooner!!!

 PJayHello!

I ve been AWOL for awhile but it s time to get back into things here at PUT!

I m a huge NASCAR fan, and most of the boards I post on are at racing websites. " labontefan"  means my two favorite drivers are Bobby and Terry Labonte.

I ve been going to NASCAR races since 1985. These days, I usually make it to both races at Bristol, Martinsville, and Charlotte. Until a few years ago, I had always gone to the races as a " day trip"  or stayed in a motel. In 1997, a friend and I decided to give camping at the tracks a try. The first trip was with all borrowed equipment (tent, sleeping bags, air mattress, etc.). It poured down the rain all Saturday night and Sunday, the race was postponed till Monday, some of our clothes got wet...and we had a blast!! So I started investing in some camping equipment, and we started tent camping at the tracks on a regular basis. I usually camp with one or more other female friends. We re kind of unique in the campgrounds around the tracks. You don t see too many groups of women camping together!

Last fall, I started thinking that I was getting just a bit too old to sleep in a tent. So I checked out a local Coleman dealer (after doing some research online). They had a great deal on a new 2002 Coleman Utah, and I really liked the features and the floor plan, so I decided it had to come home with me!

So far, we ve taken three racing/camping trips in the Utah, and enjoy it more each time.

I just bought a brand new TV--2003 Dodge Durango, so I m expecting the next trip to be even easier. The next trip is our " big"  vacation of the year...Charlotte for the Winston and the 600! That means we ll be camping for about 10 days. We ve done this for about three years now. I always enjoy the trip, but am really looking forward to some quality time with my new Utah!

As for personal info, I live in the mountains of southwestern Virginia (just about an hour from Bristol Motor Speedway). There s just me and my dog (who is a little old to start learning about camping---she stays in the kennel), and several friends that usually travel and camp with me.

PJayHi. We re back... after a bit of a hiatus, we couldn t resist. Our old name was HollyGator, now we re just going by Steve-o-bud.

Towards the end of last year, we bought a 2000 Bayside from our dear freinds, who sold it to us for the same amount that the dealer was going to pay them on trade-in for a new mega travel trailer. Needless to say, it was a offer too good to turn down.

Our previous PU was a  77 Jayco, with 8 foot box. We sold it to a nice couple from Orange County, we hope that they enjoy it. We are enjoing the Bayside quite a bit... it was a little bigger then what I would have purchased if we went brand new, but I really do like the extra space. I was concerned that my tow vehicle wouldn t do well pulling it, since it is a bit under powered. However, so far it has done OK, and is very stable, unless we fill the 20 gallon tank[:o].

We are big race fans, and love to camp, and we are involved quite a bit with the YMCA Guides/Princess program, formerly known as Indian Guides/Indian Princesses.

Oh Well. Enough for now. Feels good to be back!

labontefanCan t believe we not introduced ourselves as yet.  DH is retired AF and currently waiting to retire from his second career.  I m a nurse who is no longer working.  We bought our PU last August and just love it.  We have always liked to travel and spent many vacations at various NP around the country and now plan on doing the same in our little tent on wheels.  This is our first experience with camping.  We have three grown and gone kids (the youngest is tagging along on next week s trip however).  DH plays golf, we are both avid readers, and I like to do decorative painting.  We do a lot of hiking also.  Haven t run into any board members on our travels as yet but am keeping my out for SCPreacher and Gamecockfan since they seem to be the only locals on the board.

fivegonefishingHi gang. I m TG1956 because my friends call me " TG"  and I was born in 1956. DW, DS, DD and I all love to camp and have tent camped for many years. We have borrowed pop-ups from time to time and have thoroughly enjoyed them, so we are hoping to jump in this summer. I have my eye on a 2003 Starcraft 2407 (any feedback?). We re really looking forward to the camping adventures!!

My TV is a 2002 Dakota Quad Cab with a 5.9L engine and tow package, so shouldn t have any problems pulling.

 labontefanHowdy Gang,
I was in the Navy for 10 years got out for 4 years then went into the AF reserves, now I m activated for the war efforts so picked a snazzy handle[:)].  My wife is originally from PA & me from Texas we met in Scotland when we both were in the Navy together[8D].
We just bought our first popup trailer & don t pick it up until the weekend so still have to get experience with the popup.  We have tent camped for years but the DW is sick of sleeping on the ground and the rained out nights with the muddy ground plus the kids don t help when it s nasty outside[: (].  So figured what the heck if we re going to buy one for our large family better get the biggest[:D].

labontefanOur handle is our initials - DH & DW. We met 27 years ago on a Sierra Club mountaineering course and were married 6 weeks later. We backpacked for 20+ years, tent/car camped for 4 years and this is our 2nd year of popuping. We just sold our 2001 SeaPine and plan to purchase a new one in the next couple of months. WE CAN CAMP YEAR ROUND IN SoCal, but it can be tough to find a good site unless you reserve a couple months in advance. I envy many of the isolated, large campsites I see from back east. I can usually see 3 or 4 other campers from our site. But at least it is a way to relax, have real time for conversation, hike, read. The popup provides us comfort, air, space, visibility, contact with nature and isolation when we need it. We, on occassion, go camping with friends with class A, B & C rigs. I ll take a popup anyday. Our latest addition is the purchase of two kayaks. Now, we go kayaking before breakfast, hiking mid-day or afternoon and then go kayaking just before dinner or late at night during a full moon. It doesn t get any better than that.

labontefanHi ALL, We are new at this game so if things don t seem to be in the proper order. oh well!!.  I m TOM, my wife is MARY. We just purchased a VIKING 2465ST and so far its only been set up in the back yard due to scheduling conflict with a new Grandson that didn t know he was supposed to be on time, but he was worth the wait.  We will get out soon and enjoy some of this Central Texas HEAT. We are towing with a Grand Caravan with 3.8 engine, so far no problems but if anyone has any experiences with that combination, let me know.

PJayI am new to this group and am still not up on all the terminology but really enjoy the site. My wife and I have three children, a 12 YO daughter and 10 YO twin boys. I have tent camped all my life, we have been camping as a family for about 7 years. We usually have a caravan of anywhere from 3-5 family?s on our trips. We went ?only looking? at PU?s right before fathers day and my DW decided she liked one so much it would be my fathers day gift!

We generally camp in MD, VA, PA, and WV but will undoubtedly expand the range now!  Last weekend was the maiden voyage to Lancaster Pa., next weekend we are off to Gettysburg.
Hope to see some of the group around!
