Title: DUDETTE GOT A DELL
Post by: ShirleyT on Sep 28, 2003, 07:05 PM
The new computer came today!! [:D] It is the desktop dimension 2350 (or something like that). I started panicking because I couldn t find the cd to load the driver for my modem and install the program to hook it up. I started pushing buttons and suddenly I was online! NO CD required!!

I am now using windows XP, will take me months to figure everything out on this for sure! The keyboard is light weight but is working great, as is the mouse. The speakers are awesome. I am not sure what a subwoofer is but it is big, and makes me look like a fancy computer person.

ShirleyTThe subwoofer is a low frequencey speaker,(bass) if you play music or games on your computer you ll notice the difference.

DW is running xp on her computer and I m still running 98se they sure are different[&:]

How do you make the XP fix the morning cup of coffee? It seems to be able to do everything else so I know it HAS to be able to fix a cup of coffee!! [;)]

I am sure I will have questions about it in the future! SO thanks in advance!

ShirleyTShirleyT, If you have a good speaker system, you ll have to hook-up to some streaming audio sites (basically like a radio station over the internet).  There are some channels that you can get over the internet that you wouldn t be able to get over your car radio......  Good luck with the new system.

By default XP uses the Category View and this is the new Windows look.

If you would like to see the screen like Windows 98, etc, go to Start and Control Panel.

Look for Switch To on the left.  It may say switch to Classic View.  That is the old view.  If it says switch to Category View, then you are currently in the Classic View.

I use the Classic View because that is what I am so use too.

Actually, I have two accounts on the pc.  One for my personal stuff which I use Classic View.  The other account I have in Category View which is where I do my lesson plans.  Always confusing myself but getting it down.

Windows comes with a Tour of Windows XP.  Might be worthwhile taking the tour for a few minutes to get use to the different parts of the screen.  The Basic part is just that, Basic.

 Have fun and enjoy.

ShirleyTWe just got a new Dell also. I ve had a Dell laptop for alsost 3 years and love it. I just put in a new hard drive and loaded XP. I really like not having to reboot all day long like Win 98se. Still learning XP s quirks though. My DW absolutely loves her new computer though.

Is there a way to minamize all of your open windows at once, so you can look at the desk top?  98se had a spot to click by the start key that would do it.  I miss that function.
