I just tried my new Buddy heater...
Is it normal to have a strong propane odor when the unit is on?
I don t seem to have the same odor with my Coleman black cat heater.
DBGCAMPNO. If it has an odor there must be a problem. I have run mine many times and never had any odor at all. I always use the small (20 oz??) cans. If you are hooking it up to a 20lb tank, then I m not sure, but it seems like there should not be any odor. If it is new, I d take it back for another one.
DBGCAMPYup, I d return it too. If you can smell it, it s there. There is something about leaking propane and flames that doesn t sound too good.[;)]
DBGCAMPHave you tested the connection where the propane tank screws into the heater? My Buddy Heater came with a solution to put along where the tank screws in to see if there are bubbles. Bubbles mean that propane is leaking. You can also use a water dish detergent solution to test for leaks. Did you try more than one propane tank? Maybe the tank lip is defective. I wouldn t use it with the smell.[:o]
