I like to mess with snooty people

We are ocassionaly invited to different functions with a cocktail hour and a sit down dinner usually pertaining to my work. At these functions we always run into these well to do, snooty types that love to talk about their stuff and how wonderful and special they are. They love to talk about the fabulous hotels they stay in when they travel and that is where I get them. They usually get around to asking "what did you do on your vacation?" and I'll tell them we spent time at our place just outside of Jackson Hole Wyoming with a view of the Grand Tetons, or our place down in the Florida Keys, or perhaps I'll talk about our place in the Colorado Rockies or several other places. That usually shuts them up. They'll ask how long we've had it and I tell them 11 years and they'll usually ask how big of a place it is and I tell them that it's a small place that sleeps 8 people with that they assume it's a four bedroom. They always ask what we paid for a place like that and I say a little over 5 and they aren't sure if I mean $500,000 or 5 million.

Of course they don't know that I pull my place to and from all of those places and that to sleep 8 people we would need a few kids in the mix and that when I say 5 I mean a little over $5000.

I love to watch their faces.

Back in my office days, my co-workers would be a bragging about their club med vacations, or a week in Hawaii, etc., and within a month of their vacations, they were positively sick with credit card debt - as that vacation cost about $3-5,000 (flight, motel, eating out, rental car, entry fees/activities and of course the clothing to look good on this vacation).

Me on the other hand, took el-cheapo vacations.....tent camped at various lakes, scenic areas, and had great pictures - and it might have cost me $200 or less.

I even did a few 'time-share' get-aways  (4 days/3 nights) and sat through all the spiels.....those were pretty kewl, and pretty inexpensive too.  And, my kids have traveled the east coast pretty widely.

You would do well in "the Hamptons!"  Snooty people like that annoy me...  But what is worse are the phoney people who pretend to have a lot of money and hang around with the phoney richies.  The ones that *have* to drive the big fancy car and *have* to have the *real* designer purses etc...

It's funny, I would much rather be at the local state park, cozy in my camper w/my family than at a conference/cocktail/work event where money is no object & everyone is behaving to impress.

I tell my husband all the time if it's not camping it's NOT a vacation! I want to have all the stuff I need with me! And if having a midnight snacks suits somebody then we have it close at hand, love it!

You know, it's funny you said that.  We just returned from our first week long camoing trip.  In fact it is the first week long vacation we have taken since our 3 y/o was born.  Anyway, ususally when we return from a long trip like that it is so cozy to be back in our own bed.  This trip wasn't like that.  Though it was nice to be home and in our own beds again, it wasn't as "cozy" as it usually is.  The camper beds are pretty darn cozy and comfortable plus, even though it is a new to us pup, we didn't have to worry that the linnens weren't cleaned or anything like that...

Resort vacations, overseas trips, and cruises are not necessarily "better" or "worse" than a week of camping.  It's just a different experience, and I enjoy them all! The excitement over a recent trip and wanting to share is natural, and doesn't always mean trying to brag.

I agree with you completely and I don't pull this when the people are real and just sharing a great experience that they've had. I only respond this way when they have that certain, you know, attitude about them. You know the people that look down their noses at other people.

As long as people are real, I don't care how much money they make, where they live, or what they do for a living, (as long as it's legal and ethical) I like people from all different lifestyles. My two best friends come from two different sides of the spectrum. One is worth probably $20 million and the other is living paycheck to paycheck on a small income. They are both really good men and when we're together there is  equal respect and loyalty between us. They are real.

Ethics according to who?  Some things that are legal are very unethical, and somethings that are illegal are ethical according to most people.

We cat-sat for a friend who has a place on the Rappahannock River. DW insisted we tow the Pup and camp in the yard (even though the house was available to us). All we used was their bath a refrigerator. DW said she felt more comfortable in her own bed with her own things messing up her own kitchen.
