What kind of EV do you own or are getting?

I currently own a 2016 Ford Fusion Energi. It has about a 20 mile electric range which is great for going between home and my shop but not much more since the distances in Phoenix are fairly long. I do have a Tesla Model 3 on order which currently shoes a delivery window of August 5 to August 19. I ordered it roughly 10-months ago.

Update, Tesla sent me updated delivery window. Now from August 10th to 24th.

We have a 2022 Model Y in the midnight silver metalic. We took delivery of that one in May.

Before this current one we had a 2020 Model Y in white which was rear ended in January. Before the first Model Y we had a black 2017 Model 3 long range before that. Our first Tesla was a used 2014 Model S 85D RWD in gray. It's very hard going back to an ICE vehicle now. We have taken many long range trips it seems like it has just been getting better and better. Each one we have had has been better than the last. The updates usually make the car better over time.

Our first Model Y we had the FSD but never had access to the actual self-driving features we opted not to get it on the new one since it's now $12000 add-on. The prices have gone up quite a bit since the first one so an additional $12000 for FSD package was a deal breaker. We may try the subscription when they finally release it to everyone. Autopilot is pretty good though.

I want to put a reservation in for the F-150 Lightning. I'm still a bit hesitant since the data on towing is not great. It looks like you loose from 1/2 to 1/3 of your range while towing. I can swallow half, I loose close to that currently. Most of the time we can be within 100 miles for camping. I guess I'm still waiting for more information. Of course waiting is bad, I heard Ford will be increasing the price of their EVs.

The neighbor has an electric truck, he gave me us a ride around the block. It was really nice and very quiet. I'm trying to convince Rob we should get one, he thinks it's too much money and you can buy lots of fuel for the extra cost of the truck. I could tell he was having fun, every time the neighbor stepped on the guess Rob would squeal in excitement like a like a little boy on a roller coaster.

I got the Model 3 on Wednesday, it was delivered to my store around 12:30 that day. There is quite a bit to figure out. One thing I'm trying to figure out is how to access the sentry mode videos and the dash cam videos. I have come across the dash cam videos accidently and the sentry videos when the screen shows an alert but I don't see where to get to them on demand. Craig, maybe you can help.

Congratulations!!!

That's pretty exciting, I will have to stop by when I get a chance and check it out.

I'm drawing a blank, I can't think of the real name is but I call it the app drawer. At the bottom of the screen, tap those dots to open the application drawer. tap the camera icon, it should launch the app to play back dash cam and sentry cam footage.

I think my next car is likely to be all electric.  I started to look for a replacement mid-size SUV for DW a year ago and got stuck because I didn't like anything I saw.

Our current SUV has only two rows of seats and a ton of storage room behind the second row.  Everything I look at now has 3 rows of seats.  With the seats folded down, I lose all the storage compartment room where I keep emergency kit, chains, etc, etc.  Apparently, only people with kids buy SUVs.

I'm a dinosaur - the idea of watching a television screen while I'm driving seems like distracted driving at its worst.  I like knobs and buttons.  In my two current vehicles, I can reach out to adjust temp/fan and radio without looking, so my eyes are always on the road.  Having to look at a touch screen to do things seems counterintuitive with respect to safe driving.

I can get some knobs & buttons in the base model of most cars. That's also where I can get fabric seats, which I like.  Sadly, you seem to get crappy to mediocre headlights in base model cars.  A backup camera would be handy for me, but DW finds them distracting.

I like the low maintenance and no emission idea of an electric vehicle.  I'm not sure the massive lithium mining required to support the electric auto battery industry is any real improvement environmentally.

So, I'm still thinking and pondering.

When I got the last car, I found the screen to be distracting until I learned the car. Once I learned how to access what I needed it wasn't too bad. The tesla has way more stuff that you need to access but it has pretty good voice control. In a pinch I can get things done that way without taking my attention away. I suspect once I get things figured out it won't be too distracting either.

I feel like most of the EV SUVs coming out are really CrossOvers. I could be wrong but I didn't think many of them came with three rows. I know the Tesla Models Y and X you can get three rows and I'm guessing the Rivian R1S as well. As for the EV SUVs I like the Fiskar Ocean, it looks like an SUV. I don't think that one has a third row option. I'm sure the price will go up but it was starting at $40K.

crossover vs suv - - - - they all look like a "car" to me despite what the marketing departments and advertising agencies say.

Probably in the 1980s or 1990s, there was a Subaru commercial on TV showing a lady backing out of her driveway into the neighbor's garbage can across the street.  Paul Hogan ("Crocodile Dundee") is standing in the driveway next to hers, dressed like Crocodile Dundee with a longneck beer between his fingers, thumbs hooked in his front jeans pockets.  He watches her backing out and says to the audience "automatic transmission, air conditioning.... the only time she's been off-road is when he backed over the curb.   A real man knows a station wagon when he sees one!"    :))

Thanks CamperDan.

We did take a trip to New Mexico over the weekend it's a great road trip car, the charging stops did not feel that long. I will say I don't feel like it was as cheap as all the claims are on a long trip. At home it's cheap but the super chargers were charging between $0.43 and $0.46 per Kilowatt. It looks like if you have a membership with Electrify America you can get around $0.31 per Kilowatt, otherwise it's around $0.43 per Kilowatt. The adapter I ordered arrived after our trip so I wasn't able to test any CCS charging, but, the Tesla superchargers mostly worked great, just plug and play. On the way out we had one charger not delivering very high speed so we just moved to a different stall and the problem was solved.

I just saw a YouTube video of the new Ram Electric Pickup prototype. I hope the production version is mostly the same because I might like that one better than the F-150 Lightning. Has anyone seen any specifications on it like range, charging speed, towing capacity, etc...

I saw that too, but I'm not sure how much the production version will be like the prototype so not sure I would get my hopes up. On the other hand it seems like the old Chrysler did bring out several vehicles that were fairly true to the prototypes, so you never know.
