Well, we had about 2 feet of snow this weekend and it took me quite some time to clean off the top of the camper.  So, I m wondering ....

What do you all use to clean off your camper? (Please no digs about yours being in the garage)

Just how important is it to remove the snow? (The owner s manual says to remove it ASAP, but why is it important.)

 Thanks,

LoveOurBaysideI have never cleared my popup roof but I am concidering getting a roof rake to clean my other camper.

LoveOurBaysideI would guess the weight of it could cause it to warp out of shape.  Look what happened to the B & O Museum in Baltimore.

LoveOurBaysideI use a big push broom..... the kind you sweep a garage with.  Seems to work pretty well with the snow, and I don t worry about scratching the ABS roof.

ThunderRock

LoveOurBaysideIf only a few inches on it, I wouldn t bother too much (except a wet, heavy snow); but in your folks case, I would follow Wallrock s suggestion using the pushbroom.
Good luck, now if spring would only.........................

LoveOurBaysideMy camper is in PA,I went up this past weekend to clean off the snow. But it was
mostly ice about 6to8 inches I was not happy but what can I do.[:@] I cleaned off what I could. I wonder if the dealers clean off the snow on the campers on the lot.
 I bet they dont

LoveOurBaysideI use a roof rake, VERY CAREFULLY! I usually leave the last inch or so on it, as I figure a little snow is better than scratching it all up!

LoveOurBaysideI use a plastic shovel and scoop the snow off the top.  The weight of the snow is the reason to keep it clear.

LoveOurBaysideA push broom is actually what I did use.  Was wondering if anyone had any better ideas.  The snow was so high and thick and because there was so much snow around the camper it was very awkward.  In fact I used the side and back of it mostly because the broom itself was ineffective.

LoveOurBaysideAfter having to replace the cover on a roof vent I now stick to brooms.
As to what effect snow could have they reporrted on the weather last night that water weights apx 3.2 pounds per square foot by 1 inch deep. So on an 8 foot wide by 12 foot long that would be apx 307 pounds. With snow about 10 -15 inches equalling an inch of water and most PU s are rated to apx 300 punds on the roof when it s down that should give you a limit on when to clean off the snow.

The problem arises when the snow is followed by rain.  Then that 10"  of snow might settle to 6" , but be sufficiently waterlogged to weigh 6-7 lbs per square foot instead of 3.2.
