Just returned from 4 days of camping and have two great SPUTs to report.  Nothing new for the board but new for us.

This first is actually so STUPID I am ashamed to admit it but here goes - As some of you know I have a 6 in PVC tube that I keep my fishing rods and outdoor carpet in.  Most times it is mounted on the Blazer roof rack but this time I had the brilliant idea to strap it on the PU roof next to the A/C.  Some of you can see this coming - we got to the site late in the evening and all I wanted to do was set up and head to the lake to see how the fishing was.  Well, set up went smoother than I can ever remember and soon we were off to the lake to check things out.  After talking with a few guys the fishing looked promising and I couldn t wait to get everything ready for a daylight start then next morning.  Back at camp I got tackleboxes, bait, clothes and licenses together without a snag - I was ready - NOT.  Early am comes and as I am making coffee I am loading the truck UNTIL I got to the part where I needed my fishing poles.  One look at the PU top said it all.  OUCH.

I had to release the bungies on the extra bed end and fold the end cover up and out of the way so that I could crawl up on the bed and standing where a tent cover normally was - reach on the roof and get my poles.  LUCKILY it was early enough that there were no pictures taken.

Hope I learned my lesson on this one.

Second SPUT wasn t as humorous but was potentially very dangerous.  Like most folks we split setup chores.  Among the last we both set the door, then she does the bungy cords on the bunk ends while I set the stablizers among much yelling and cussing.  Well this time I set the stabilizers but she went on to other things.  Any experienced popupper can see this coming but not us.  Middle of the night the dog (who sleeps at the foot of the big bed with us) rolled over AND WHOMP - he was half way out hanging by his neck and front feet.  He never made a sound (maybe he couldn t since he was hanging there) but I heard him fall so I immediately jumped up and crawled over her to get him.  I jerked him back in by the paws with him landing right on top of her.  By then she was only slightly awake asking us - " Why are you both stepping on me?"

I explained everything and she made big noises of sympathy over him.  Needless to say he jumped down and spent the rest of the night on the floor.  Next night took some serious coaxing to get him back up on the bed.

I hope we learned and everyone can learn from our mistakes.

never2poopd2popBetter the puppy than a baby----a PUT legend----or the amorous couple who popped up more than the roof, but forgot to put down the stabilizers---another PU legend.

never2poopd2popThe dog sleeps in the bed with you guys ? Is it a big dog ? Poor thing [&:]

Once my dog when I was 7 th grade jmanaged to squish itself out of the balcony and got almost hanged by its leash [:@] I was so upset with myself for not thinking that that might happen. Shortly afterwards, we gave it to a friend of my dad s, huge farm ! It loved the freedom !

Acts 2:38 girl

never2poopd2popWhen one of our sons was three he actually managed to wiggle out inbetween of the cords.  Started crying in the middle of the night, so I stumbled over there searching the bed for him until I found his two little arms holding on, the rest of him was haning out.  What an bad way for him to wake up - not to mention dangerous.  Now I check them before I go to sleep and pull them both into the center of the bed - they all toss and turn so much, it s hard to make them stay put!

Gamecock Camper

never2poopd2popI haven t done either of those SPUT s (yet).   Thank goodness I won t have that problem with the bunk-end bungees.  The Rockwood we have has the tenting fabric attached to the bunk itself somewhat permanently, so that one won t be a problem.  I haven t had the problem with fishing poles, but there was that time with the keys.....

never2poopd2popThe dog was fine after a night on the floor.  And yes he is a larger dog - about 70 pounds - but not tall enough to stand with his head stuck.

 Birol,

Yes he sleeps with us.  I bought the trailer thinking he would have (and USE) a bed of his own.  Silly me.

never2poopd2popWe spent ten minutes or so looking for an FRS radio that " I had just a minute ago" .[:@]  Eventually, we checked to see if it was on (a SPUT in itself that we didn t start there).  Following the sound led us to...

Yup, the minute ago was before we cranked up the roof.

never2poopd2popBefore I changed the way I put up the awning, I looked all over for my hatchet. Yep, on the roof. Now I put the awning up after everything else is done. I find it easier also.
