Since you are from the general climatic area (Northeast MO) that I am going to, I have some questions.

 1.  Is the region prone to more ice storms than snow?
 2.  If it is mainly ice (I saw more snow in KC then in Kirksville), how do you drive a rear wheel drive truck in it?
 3.  How long is it ice covered?
 4.  Am I going to freeze?  (Remember, I just went camping this past weekend and it was in the low 70s during the day.  I know how to deal with killer monsoon storms and 115 F.)

stoichieI think LInda (IWANNAPOPUP) or her husband (cann t remember the s/n) could answer your questions better then I since they re from St. Louis area (east MO), and I m on the west side (KC-The Best BBQ in the world!!!!!), but I ll try. On the KC side of the state  We get some snow, And we get some ice/sleet.  Not alot (some years more then others..been a brown winter this year pretty much)  Whe it snows..it s not that bad, or much for the most part...but the Ice/sleet///most times it seems to get a coating of snow on top..and everyone drives like idiots. (I usually stay home when it s getting bad out).  The way you plan is this...if the weathermen/women say it s going to be bad...don t really do anything cause they re usually wrong, when they say they re not sure...you just keep an eye on the radar, and when they say the storm is gonna miss us completely...you stock up on supplies, and make plans on staying in cause you re gonna get hit hard.  As far as driving a rear wheel drive pick up in the snow....I just throw about 10 sandbags in the bed of the truck by the tailgate to put weight over the drive wheels.  When it s bad out, you generally don t have problems with folks with rear wheel drives sliding off the road, it s usually...and I hate to say it...it s the ones in those big ole SUV s with 4 wheel drive cause it seems to give them a false sense of security, and they don t slow down for adverse weather conditions.  Not saying it s all SUV owners, but it just seems they re the majority of the ones in the ditch during real bad weather.  The summer camping really sticks...the heat indexes of 115-120 are just bad.  To hot for a campfire..no wind..etc.  You won t freeze, but it depends if you have enough cold weather gear.  It s been in the 40 s for a high for the most part..with lows in the teens to 20 s.  been colder then that this winter..and can get colder..but doesn t last that long.  Same with the snow/ice (cept for the ice storm of jan-2002 where it lasted a couple of weeks..and we were without power for like 10-15 days).  The storm that hit the east..we were suppose to get like 4 inches...but we saw a flake or 2(went about 100 miles north), St. Louis got hit according to Jack with ice with snow on top.  St. Louis always seems to suffer more then KC cause their BBQ isn t nearly as good as ours.  [:D]  You ll probabally be cold in the winter coming from a warm weather climate.  Cold here doesn t affect me cause I grew up in a cold weather climate(Upstate NY)(had a Flight Chief back in N. Cal who could tell I was from NY cause it was dead of winter..everyone else is wearing their bdu jackets...and I m walking around with my sleeves rolled up and no jacket).  Just remember...in the fall...keep an eye on the wooly caterpillers, and the redneks who are stocking up on firewood for their..um..stills (used for medicinal purposes only) to tell what kind of winter you re probabally gonna have.  Sorry for the novel..but hoped it helped.
