For those of us who had to winterize our pop ups, are you keeping up with the battery?

Remember, you don t want to allow it to discharge.  Many pop ups have small devices (like the LP Gas detector) which will slowly run down the battery over time.

If you left it on the trailer, remember to charge it up every couple of weeks (even if that means diging it out of the snow).  There should not be a concern about freezing if it is charged.

If you removed it and brought it into the house, you still need to keep up the charge.  Plus, remember to vent it when charging as flooded batteries will give off gas while charging wich is both bad for the lungs and can be explosive in concentration.

 Did I miss anything??

tim5055My batteries are sitting in the kitchen.  I had them outside to recharge them last week when the weather was warm and I am leaving them where they are.  I hope [&:]  to put them back on the PU in a few weeks.

tim5055We disconnected it and it s sitting there on the tongue. Just too much else going on to be bothered with it, along with the motorcycle batteries. At least the bikes got Sta-bil.

Someday, we ll pay more atention to batteries over the winter...someday....[:(]

tim5055I always take mine into the basement and hook it up to my battery maintainer/charger whenever it is not in use on the camper or to run my trolling motor on the boat. That is where it is right now. Just have to remember to check the water level about once a month or so. Doing this seems to make the battery last longer also.

tim5055Our battery is in the basement. We check it every couple of weeks and charge as needed. Not only is it good for the battery, but if we lose power in the house we have a place to go and stay warm. We make sure the paropane is full before winter hits too, just in case.

Ab Diver

tim5055Yup, I give the trailer battery a top off every month or so when we haven t been camping for a while. That way it s always ready to go.

I also give my Bronco a (roughly) monthly jolt as well. It was my primary vehicle before our truck, and is waiting for an overhaul. Do those of you who live in the colder parts of the country and have " summer cars"  do the same thing?

tim5055I take my battery out & put it in the garage. I hook a 12v trouble lamp up to it and turn it on several times during the winter. I let it run for a few hours every couple of weeks then charge the battery up for a day ot two. I think using the battery & recharging is better for it than just sitting.

ThunderRock

tim5055Got a brand new battery back in Nov, during the befuddled deer season (we both had bad colds & never got to use the camper)

Have it in the basement sumppump room...try to remember to put it on the charger every other week or so for a few hours to bring it back to full charge. Hoping this battery will last more than 2 seasons, tho. [:(]

Miller Tyme

tim5055I m hoping to add a battery to the Pal as soon as it warms up(yea, right). Got the time now but no ambition or money.[: (]

 Dave(Ab Diver)-
Yeah, I used to have a good car and a winter beater. I d pull the battery and put it in the basement, but take it out and crank the engine over and let it idle, and possibly a short drive. Didn t want it to get too rusty( 78 LTD II) so I drove the beater( 73 LTD 4dr) till it dropped.[;)]

Gamecock Camper

tim5055Yes.  I brought in a battery from the PU, from the pontoon boat, from the fishin  boat for the trolling motor, and a spare that I keep just in case.  Anyone who has ever owned a boat knows that you end up keeping a good spare just in case you might need it.....  All are charged.  The PU battery will be hooked up and in use in two weeks and the boat will be launced in about three weeks..... In SC, we are almost at the point where we will not see any more " winter"  weather.  Winter in SC means temps below 45.

Turn Key

tim5055Roy Clark once said the following in a live performance:

"  It doesn t matter how much fun your having, keep one eye on your battery at all times.  If you let the water run down, your plates will rust.  Then, if you get a  charge  you won t be able to keep it.  And as few as my  charges  have been of late, I d hate to get one and then lose it!"

 Good advise![:D][:D][:D]

Tentcamp

tim5055Yep, in the basement and charged!  Keeping all the 12v stuff, light, little TV near incase of power outage or other type of disaster.

 Tim,

Thanks for the reminder.  Mine was all chraged up last fall and we never used it.  It has been disconnected sitting on the trailer in the garage ever since.

tim5055Mine is in the basement.  I didn t think I needed to charge it until I was ready to use it.[:o]
