whitestar505About one in four NP campgrounds accept reservations.  Check on the individual park using the [link=http://www.nps.gov/parks.html]Visit Your Parks[/link] page on the [link=http://www.nps.gov/]National Parks Website[/link].

I believe all parks that have a campground at all have at least one that doesn t accept reservations.  Most parks that have more than one campground have at least one that does.

Most of the campgrounds that accept reservations are run by private concessionares under license from the NPS, not by the NPS itself, but I m not sure that s always true.

whitestar505I think that you should look at www.reserveusa.com for your answer.

This site is the clearing house for all of the reservable sites in any of the federal government parks.  They give the site maps and discriptions and whether it is a reserveable site or not and the fee.

Some sites (like those operated by the National Forestry Service) cost to make a reservation while the Corp of Engineers doesn t.  Go figure.

Once you have registered and have your password, you can reserve any site nation wide.  Also, if you are a senior citizen or disabled you can get a passport for life for certain benifits.  Me, I get half priced fees and  no entrance fee.

Give them a try.  A great many of the COE campgrounds are real nice.  I already have reservations from April thru August at these CGs.

If I can help further, let me know.[:)][;)]

Some parks like Assateague Island the whole campground is reservable.

The best bet is to check out the parks web site and then make a reservation if it is during the busy season.

whitestar505Go to nps.gov and pick the national park you are interested in.  Follow the links from there to see if there is a campground that takes reservations.  They make it very easy to make the reservations.

The most popular national parks fill up pretty fast!  If you can, book early.

We are going to Rocky Mountain National Park over Memorial day and I booked it last month.  The campground we chose (Moraine Park) does not let you choose your site until you get there.  We have a spot, but we don t know where yet; first come, first serve to get the best sites.  Also, there are no hookups at any sites at Moraine Park c.g.--dry camping only.  Water is available throughout the c.g.

 Good luck!

Edina KidThanks All for the info. Some of them do take reservations others do not. Why, I do not know. Here in Maryland we have many National Parks but only two take reservations.[:)][:(]
