 JemJen24Jennifer,

Your first camping trip sounded a lot like mine (although I only had a tent at the time).  Its funny, all those little goofy things you don t think about until you get out there and are actually camping (like taking along a funnel for pouring hot water).

On my first camping trip, I ended up forgetting a basin to wash utensils as well as dish soap (and of course no place to dispose of grey water).  I also bought wood from a guy that had a pile out in his backyard and thought it was real nice wood until I got to the campground and tried to light a fire (the wood was damp and would not light Aghhhh!).  I ended up buying wood and paying through the nose for it at the campground.

As for dogs, I enjoy camping with mine too.  I have a Wire hair pointer and a sheltie.  The pointer goes with me a lot, but my sheltie often stays home just because he s better off in the air conditioning with his long, heavy haircoat.  He goes when I don t plan on hiking a lot and just want to hang around the campsite (thats usually when the rest of my family goes too).

I think the one thing that makes camping really fun is that you pick up " new"  ideas and learn things every time you go.  I ve only been camping for a mere 2 years, but my trips now are leaps and bounds different than my first ones were.

Your story was very entertaining, thanks for sharing it.

JemJen24Carol and ...ermmm...Carole.....(laughs..boy, that was confusing at first)...

Glad you liked the pics  :)

Carol....I don t blame you for leaving the Sheltie at home.  Our 14 year old is a Brittany/Sheltie mix and we keep her shaved.  Moreso now than ever because she overheats fast and it keeps her fur from getting too oily (with age comes oily skin).  If we didn t keep her shaved, her fur would be almost as long (just not quiet as fine) as a Sheltie s.  Toss in her arthritis and old age, and she s simply happier being at the pet-sitter s whom she loves anyway. ha!

Boxer is still young, dumb, and full of spit.  Short hair too, much easier to care for.  He s even got his own backpack (eyeroll) and PARKA JACKET (double eyeroll).  All he needs now is booties and he d be the laughing stock of the campground.  Or maybe I would! hmmmm. [;)]

 JemJen24Hi Again Jennifer,

Close by for next weekend you have Cedar Hill (its OK), Tyler (very nice) Lake Ray Roberts, outside of Denton (we love), and Lake Mineral Wells (we also love). All of those parks are good possibilities.

LAke Ray Roberts is up past Denton and the park ranger called it one of the best kept secrets in the State Park system. We loved it up there and we plan on going back. Its a fairly new park and very clean with a great fishing lake!

You might check it out. We were there last Thanksgiving when all of the other parks were totally booked.

JemJen24Great pics, Jen, and sounds like you had a really great trip, too.   And your 2003 Coleman is super.  We have a Coleman too, but not so new.  Ours has a furnace, cuz up here in the north country it gets pretty cool at night, especially when we PopUp for Deer hunting in November.   Just this past Nov we had a few days that were around or under 10 degrees.  We needed the furnace then!   I m glad to see that we are giving you lots of useful advice, and hope you continue to have a good time.   Oh, and BTW, those armadillos are just possums with jammies on.

 JemJen24Hi Jennifer!
I loved your pics. Your new camper is great! Congrats[:)]and welcome to the world of PU-ing.
I m from Victoria, TX. The SP you were at reminds me of Bastrop SP near Austin. We are going there next weekend for spring break. I can t wait!!!!!!!!
I m glad your first time out was such a success, I attribute that to how prepared you were before you left.
It is sad when we see first timers, whether in a camper or a new tent, trying to set up, especially in the dark, and you can tell they haven t practiced. Usually their first experience is a bust with tempers flaring. You seem to be on the right track. Good for you!
I know you ll have a great time with your new " home" . We love ours for sure!
I love your babies too. You can see my Daisy dog in my pics in the link below. Daisy loves to camp and she sleeps on the covers with us. Once she gets warm she won t move. She is a great camp dog.
Well, have fun on your next trip out.

 wiininkweJennifer,

I agree with Bearnkat about Lake Ray Roberts.  I have a Webshots album of pictures from there when we camped there last fall.  Click the link below.  Great park.

Glad you liked Daingerfield and read your email.  We have an opening for Inks Lake if you want it.
