We are the proud new owners of a 1999 Starcraft PopUp!  It has slide-out, potty/shower, stove, fridge, heater, king/queen beds...  Our first trip is less than a month away in Williamsburg, VA - KOA Colonial Williamsburg.

If any of you can offer pros/cons of this campground, or, if you can offer us advice for our maiden voyage, PLEASE feel free to share it ALL with us - we want to take advantage of the knowledge y all have from your years of camping (we ve only tent camped so far).

 WE RE SO EXCITED!  [:)]

 my4cutiesHi Mark and Laurie,

We re glad to have you join our happy little family here and congrats on the new purchase. You ll be getting years of enjoyment and pleasure out of your popup. Concerning your maiden voyage, there are all sorts of threads concerning what you may need. Just look through some of the message threads and you ll find all sorts of recommendations and advice. Happy camping.

my4cutiesOnly recommendation is to make sure you have something solid to put the sliedout stabilizer jacks on. Either position the popup far to the door side of the side so it can slide out over the cement, use wood blocks to put the stabilizers on, or buy some Lynx levelers. A long term solution might be to have your dealer install crank down stabilizers and then install sand pads. Good luck the Starcrafts with slideouts are very roomy!

my4cutiesCongratulations on your purchase!  Welcome to the world of PUs!  Two things come to mind in terms of advice for that first trip.  One is to camp overnight in the backyard if possible, to get some feel for the camper & also to try to figure out what you need.  Second is to make sure you know where a decent store is (like WalMart) while you re out on that first trip so you can buy what you ve forgotten!  Luckily we were fairly close to a good WalMart our first time out - because we needed it![:D]

Definitely search the board, I know there have been some fairly recent posts on what to bring that first trip.

 Enjoy!

my4cutiesCongradulations on your New 2 you popup.
About Williamsburg, my preference is NewportNews Park. It is about 8 miles from Williamsburg. The cost per night is around $19 a night w/water & electric. It is a nice park, no pool but it has a great deal to offer. There is a web site, but you will need to just need to search for Newport News, VA nad then select camping. Good luck.

my4cutiesCongrat on the new popup. I will give you one sugestion . Try to ge tot your campsite before it get s dark. When we took purs out for the first time we got there after dark . And it was no fun to put it up. Even though we put it up and down several times to get the feal for it. That first time out Was a pain.

my4cutiesWe had the hitch installed today on our " new-to-us"  Expedition, and we ll be picking up our " new-to-us"  Starcraft next weekend!  I ve ordered the POPUP 101 video, and also a sign from gonecamping.net with our names & town to hang outside our PopUp!   Oh, I got the journal, too!  Can you tell how excited we are to begin our journey!  I find myself wishing we d done this sooner!

my4cutiesCongratulations on the new camper and TV (tow vehicle).  If you can, try taking a trip close to home or in your driveway.  That way you can start figuring out what stuff you will need in the PU.  I would also like to invite you to camp with us (COTOC) on any of our trips.  You can check out what is planned on the link below or at the club section here at PUTs.
