I need some opinions on this, especially from you folks that have been towing for a while.

I recently replaced my Chevy Silverado with a Ford F-150.  The hitch receiver on the Ford is approximately 2 to 3 inches higher off the ground than the one on the Silverado was.  On the Silverado, I was using a 4 inch drop draw bar to tow my PU with.  However, on the F-150, the 4"  drop draw bar make the PU tow at an " uphill"  angle.  So, I purchased a 6"  drop draw bar to use with the F-150, but when I " hitched up"  the PU, the pu was angled " downhill"  so to speak.  So, a 6"  drop is too much and a 4"  is not enough.  I tried a couple of auto and truck parts stores and have not been able to find a 5"  drop draw bar.  So here is my question. Assuming there is no such thing as a 5"  drop draw bar, and assuming the trailer is properly loaded and the tire pressures in all tires of the tow vehicle and trailer are properly set, which is the better way to tow a PU - with a slight " downhill"  or a slight " uphill"  tilt? (downhill meaning the hitch is lower than ther rear bumper.)  Is one way safer than the other?

One of the first disadvantages of having the " uphill"  tilt is less ground clearance at the rear bumber which might make backing up a bit tricky to say the least...

 Any ideas or recommendations?

 Thanks

P-MANWell all manufacturers recommend the trailer be towed level. Coleman makes the specic recommendation that it be 17 +/- 1 inch for hith height when towing. None say higher or lower is better. level or as close to level as possible.
They do make what I call a raised height ball. The shoulder on top of the threads is 1 inch higher than normal. It s rated for class three operation and will increase the height 1 "  over a standard b hitch ball.

 Dave,

Reese does make a 5 1/4   drop hitch. If that won t work how about an adjustable utility ball mount with a range of 6   lift  through a 7   drop.

P-MANP-Man... How ya doing? Replace that drill yet??? [;)]

I also had a small problem finding just the right height on the drawbar, and went to Northern Tool and purchased a tow ball on a raised shank, it make it an inch taller using the same old drawbar, fixed the immediate problem! (still need a WDH, but that is another story)...
