We are trying to plan a vaca for the end of this month.  We would like to stay in Texas but I am not sure where the best place is.  We are currently looking at Inks Lake SP, Garner SP or Atlanta SP.  We have a three year old so a playground is very important to us and I like to be able to camp right next to it.  I am also very particular on the bathrooms and showers.  Most of the are pretty clean right now because the parks arent too busy yet.  Anyone have any good suggestions???

campfogInks Lake isn t a bad place (check my pictures, I show the playground) but the sites are kind of close together and somewhat open.  If you go there try to get campsite 62.  It s right by a playground and bathroom (not so hot).  Campsite 208 is off on a little loop with plenty of room but is a little ways to the playground.

If you have never been to Lake Ray Roberts up by Denton, you might want to give that a try.  The Isle du Bois unit is excellent camping (more pictures) and has a playground right in the camping loops.  The bathrooms were excellent.

campfogYou guys just kill me with these websites!!!!  Yours is aswome.  I love the fact that you took pics of the bathrooms.  Where is Lake Bob Sandlin SP????  That one looks really nice too.  Was there a playground there?  We are thinking about joining the NTPUCA.  Do you like it?  We were up at Lake Ray Roberts last weekend.  It is a really nice place.  We havent camped there yet but we have gone to the day use area!

campfogLake Bob Sandlin SP is about 30 miles east of Sulphur Springs just off I-30.  I don t remember seeing much in the way of playgrounds there but the campsites are just great.  Lots of shade... like every site, plenty of room between campsites and the lakefront sites will knock you out.  Terrific park.  Bathrooms look like they were just retiled and the showers were spotless.  I took the bathroom pictures because people are interested in " personal"  things.

There s a fishing pier there that s easily accessible but you can t walk there from the campground because it s about 1.5 miles away on the other side the park.  The hiking trails are easy and fairly flat.

We ve been members of the NTPUCA for the past couple of years and have had a good time with the people.  Pretty low key group with lots of kids, almost everyone has a couple I think.  Our last campout was at Inks Lake a couple of weeks ago and that s where the pictures I had posted came from.  If you want to join, just click my link to the club below.  It has all the information.  We already have more than 20 familes signed up for our next campout at Cedar Hill SP out by Arlington.

campfogAvoid Atlanta SP if you want clean restrooms...they were very buggy when we were there last (two years ago, so maybe they ve fixed the seals around the door by now).   Atlanta s a gorgeous park, other than the buggy bathrooms.

Inks Lake is one of our favorite parks.  Trlboy - " sites are kind of close together" ???   I disagree...they ve got some of the largest sites of any park in central Texas.     Now if you want largish sites with screens of trees, try Pedernales SP between Austin and Fredericksburg....each site is surrounded by mesquite trees.

Garner, YUCK!   It s a city, not a campground.

Just my two bits worth. :-)

You bet!  Checked it out 2 years ago while we were camped at Blanco River SP and again last spring while we were camping at South Llano River SP.  Will be there for a week next month and are really looking forward to it.  Sites are good sized with a lot of privacy.  River is beutiful and I m looking forward to fishing and tubing it.  Everything else seems to fit well.  Will post a review on our return.

PS: Guadalupe River SP is " home park"  for Tom Collins.  You may want to post an e-mail to him.  I m sure he can give you a good heads up.

campfogOk,,,,,I gotta agree with Bob on the Inks Lake sites.  They were pretty close together (our " neighbors"  Scbnauzer came and laid under our portable picnic table  few times) and there were maybe only one or two trees in between our sites.

HOWEVER, I do not have children (well, two legged one s anyway..ha), but I can tell you that this is a WONDERFUL park for kids!  Lots of playgrounds, canoing, paddleboating, etc.  The weather was so warm already, that many kids were swimming.

I have not been to a ton of parks yet, but out of all the one s I ve been too, Daingerfield has been my favorite thus far.  It has a playground, swimming, fishing, canoing, paddleboats, hiking, and VERY nice campsites.  Restrooms were also kept nice and clean.

ps...you can see pics of Daingerfield, Inks, and Purtis at my website.

campfogJennifer... you need to drop the " newbie"  off your signature line because:
 [ul]

  • You can back up your camper alone and set up
  • You go fishing and actually catch stuff
  • You like margaritas and dogs

campfogHey, you re still the princess...

campfogPersonally I agree on the lack of trees at Inks. Also I didn t think the bathrooms were kept up as nicely as they are in other parks I ve been too. But it does have the best playground. However DS still stays pretty busy with the rocks and dirt in our site LOL.

We ve been to Guadalupe, and I really liked it. Nice big wooded sites. McKinny in Austin is really nice as well. It s right under the flight path for the airport, but honestly DH and I don t notice planes so it didn t bother us (use to live in a VERY loud neighborhood LOL).  We ve also drivin through Perdnales and it looks like a nice one as well.  All three of these bathrooms passed my inspection, which says something! [:D]

We just joined NTPUC at the last campout and had a really good time. We re planning on making the next one too. I d definatly reccomend joining.

campfogGlad to have you in the club Beth plus the hubby and DS and the one to come.  BTW, your DS will have his ball back at Cedar Hill in a couple of weeks.  I m camping with a couple of people at Easter that will be at Cedar Hill so I ll try to remember to bring it... although it does add a certain style to my workbench.
