While my BIL was staying the night in our guest room AKA the pop-up, the heater stopped blowing hot air.  DH says the propane is full and the blower is blowing. but there s no heat coming out.  Any ideas on what to check/fix?  Thanks.

whitestar505

Camping CoxesWhen it first started did it have heat coming out ? It sounds like it may have. On mine there is a on/off switch and the fan will come on but without heat until the switch is in the on state.

whitestar505Yes, at first it was working fine.  Then he woke up real cold and checked it, and it was blowing just air, no heat.

Camping CoxesDid you run out of propane?

jackgoesthepopup

Camping CoxesCheck your fuses and or breakers. And check and see if there is a fuse on the circuit board of teh furnace.

oldmoose

Camping CoxesThat happened to us and it turned out we d run out of propane.

Camping CoxesMaybe you should invite Red neff Barchetta over. He s always blowing hot air!

Camping CoxesWhen the furnace first starts, do you hear the igniter start? We can hear the blower going on ours, then a click and the furnace gets much louder at that point.

Definitely check fuses/breakers, but maybe hook up another propane tank and see if it lights then.

I notice the difference in sound from just the blower going and when heat is actually being produced.

Camping CoxesAfter camping this weekend and having the So. Cal. mini-rally guys looking at it, we ve determined that more than likely the thermostat is not working.  We got it working all right, but it wouldn t turn off!  We were baking in there and it just kept blowing!  Then during the night, it shut off and wouldn t come back on.  Thank goodness mrflinders had two heaters he wasn t in particular need of that weekend.  So before our next outing, we ll be replacing the thermostat, or even the whole heater if necessary.

On the side of the furances heat exchanger is a high tempature switch .I f the furnace kicked of and then won t come back on it is properly that switch. They are suppose to reset themselves after the unit cools down but sometimes they fail if they get to hot.

mrflinders

Camping CoxesI agree that the high temperature switch could be a culprit.  In many cases, that temperature switch feeds a relay.  The relay basically energizes the circuit that allows the burned to light.  If this relay were sticking, you might see the effect you describe.

If it were the thermostat, I would expect the fan to eventually turn off, not keep running without the burner for extended periods of time.  However, if the relay were sticking, the thermostat would be " telling"  the heater to light, but the sticking relay or bad temperature switch would not allow the burner circuit to energize.  In this situation, the fan would run continuously, waiting for the burner to light.

I would focus on these two components of the main heater assembly.

And Randy, did you focus on these two components when you and Paul were trying to figure it out, right before you rescued us by letting us use your two heaters?  [:D]

Paul s brother thinks it s the heat coupler, whatever that is.

Those were the components I suspected at the time, but we didn t have the where-with-all to start dis-assembling the heater there at the CG.  Also, there was no source at the CG for replacement parts.  " Heat Coupler"  sounds like the same thing as what I have been referring to as the " temperture Switch" .  I m not a heater guy, so I may be way off on the terminology.  In any case sounds like you guys have a good handle on it!  Paul s brother sounds like he ll be more help than I was![:D]

I ve been stuck in the cold without heat, and did not enjoy it one bit.  But, summer is almost here anyway, so no worries!

Are you guys going to the So Cal Roundup in Temecula?  If you are my heaters are still available......[:D]

Camping CoxesWe had a problem with our Atwood heater over the weekend. Friday night everything was just fine. Saturday night the furnace turned on and then would not light again. The furnace blower came on and the igniter clicked three times and then shut off. I followed the instructions to reset and the furnace relighted, but would not start again. Then a 6 AM the furnace came on like normal and then wouldn t re-start. I called the Jayco service rep and he said it was probably a bad circuit board. He s going to replace it Wednesday. Since we re camping this weekend, we ll see how well the change works.
