I recently replaced my battery and want to know what to do with the old dead one. When ever I replace a dead car battery the old one goes to the shop where I bought the new one. This isn t the the case with the R.V. batteries though. My old one is still sitting in the shed where it has been for the last year. That s why it s dead. I don t want to just put it in the trash. I think that there are some kind of environmental laws against that.

 champ521Hi Dave,

I work for an international battery manufacturer and we have a recycling network. Drop me an email with your area code and where you live and I ll see if we have someone close.

Thank you for being enviromentally friendly!

champ521Most shops I know will give you something for the battery (core charge, sorta).  Ask Sears, I know at least locally, they would buy it from you.

champ521If now one will buy it from you Wal-Mart and Sam s Club will take them.

 champ521Dave,
If I can be of any assistance, please don t hesitate to ask.
 Your dilemma is my dilemma.

I ll toss it in my garbage can and this big truck will come take it away on Friday.  Out of sight, out of mind as I always say.
 Just kidding everybody!!!

champ521For al those who live east of the Rockies look for an Advance Auto Parts store. They will take  " junk batteries"  as we call them without any kind of disposal fee. Some places may pay for old ones but we don t. I ve even seen some with the tops completly missing so damaged ones shouldn t be a problem. One other thing did the retailer that sold you the battery charge you a core charge? They are required to do so that you bring the old battery back for recycling insted of throwing it in a landfill or illegal dump.

champ521My neighbor just tosses it down the storm sewer.  He says that eventually all the old oil and antifreeze that he has put down there will breakdown the case of the battery and that the acid is water soluable.
