 Folks,

I know this one has been kicked around. On our shakedown this weekend with our Utah 03, I noticed that the light was not coming on at all in the storage area. I changed the light and it still did not work.. HuH[:@]

whitestar505Interesting....we noticed the SAME thing. I guess I ll pass on changing that bulb until we find a fix to this one. Our PU s are same year and model. Could that thing be on it s own fuse?

Red neff Barchetta

whitestar505Well, if the bulb is burnt out then I might know what happened.
After only 8 trips we noticed that the storage light would stay on with the trunk lid closed, even after making sure that the switch inside the PU was turned off.
What happened was that the ridiculous piece of black foam/rubber that Coleman put on the underside of the compartment lid to push down the pin to turn off the light wore through and the pin simply remained at full height leaving the light on.  Until I could make a better fix, I just put a plastic knife between the rubber/foam piece and the pin.  I have since removed the rubber/foam piece (of crap, ha) and glued and screwed (not through the lid) a piece of plywood to the lid and it works fine.
The plywood I used is exactly the same thickness as the bunk-end structurewood.  I guess Coleman thought it would be too expensive to say, pick up a piece of scrap structurewood from the production line floor and use it.  That rubber/foam piece is a horrible idea.
If your bulb and rubber/foam piece are fine, then sorry I can t help.

 MattHMatth,

I called the dealer and they stated that the top lid is not closing the switch to make contact so that when it is closed the switch is bypassed to the other switch.  I think this is what he is telling me. So he stated to take a screw driver and adjust the lght itself so as to make good contact. I will try when I get home ....

whitestar505I ve clobbered this light so many times.

OK, what I did to fix ours, was to lay down on the camper floor with my head stuck in the opening and figure out why it wasn t working.  On mine, the contacts and wires were loose.

Put a voltmeter across it to check voltage (on and off), with the rocker switch in both positions and with the battery connected.

SCCS

whitestar505The storage trunk light has three power sources. From the battery, the power converter and the tow vehicle. For the light to work off the tow vehicle the parking light s have to be on and the lid open to the storage trunk. For the light to work off the battery or converter the MAIN 12volt switch has to be on(the switch that is under the swing level galley in the upright position). Now if you open the storage lid the light will come on,or if the bunkends are pulled out then the switch that is mounted above the doors that led to the storage area from inside will turn on the light.Hope this helps???

whitestar505Sounds like someone could have thought that one out a little better.

If I read correctly, if I care to have the light come on when I open the storage box lid I have to be top down and connected to the car.

 1) It will work off the battery if the top is open and the 12v switch is on. (By this time the bunk ends are out and I have no need or way to open the storage lid anyway)

 2) It will work off the battery to the car but I obviously have to be connected to the car. (Doesn t help when I m loading the night before the journey and not hitched)

 3) The light switch on the inside of the PU will turn on the light to the storage box once I am set up. (Let s be honest. How often do you reach in their through that little door once you are set up)

At least now I know why it wasn t working. Now that I know I can work around the idiocsincracies.

 Thanks

Yes I do use that door every day.  The trunk makes a nice spot to put shoes or dirty clothes.

Granted #1, goes under the stupid category.
#2 - It helps a great deal when you need to rummage in the trunk in the dark in a parking lot or along side the road looking for the lug wrench...
#3 - I am routinely getting stuff out of the trunk through there because I can t reach it through the side access hatch.  Which matches up to #1, because I can t open the lid...
