Do these switches routinely go bad?  We didn t have 12 V service to anything in the camper with the galley swung up and in place.  The battery was fully charged and all the fuses were good.  We were stumped until my DH lifted the galley and depressed the switch by hand.  Eureka!  We had power!  He carefully returned the galley to its upright position and backed away slowly.  (Not wishing to anger any more camping deities, I m sure.)

Being the cautious sort, I have to ask; is this a symptom of more fun ahead?  Has anyone experienced a gradual failure of this switch?

 Thanks in advance,
 Chris
 PS
This was just the start of the camping trip from Hades . . . as soon as the water pump started, so did the leaks.  But that is a different post.

 jeffsxylChris,
It sounds like the switch is OK.  May be out of adjustment.  If it slipped down in its mounting, it may move just enough to operate sometimes.  I ve never looked at exactly how it s mounted.  But, that s where I would look first.

jeffsxylI have had no trouble with mine (can you hear me knocking on wood? ) but my BIL had  trouble with the one on his 2000 Santa Fe last camping season. On his the arm of the switch came out so there was nothing there to push the switch closed.

jeffsxylWe have had time when some movement of the galley will turn it off. We push in the drawer and the swittch goes off. Don t know why.

CAPEd CODger

jeffsxylHad to replace ours ater it got caught on by something and yanked apart. Check in the cabinet below the switch to make sure the wires aren t loose.

jeffsxylIf just about the most common problem with " electricity"  in PU s. Seems manufacturers don t really feild test things like this and after years of problems you still find the same switches mounted in the same manner as when they first were added years ago.
[rant mode on:/]So much for listening to the consumer when it comes to things that a potential customer can t see. They ll spend thousands on focus groups (who in a lot of cases seem to be gotten from a school for the blind [:D]) to decide interior colors and patterns but can t give an engineer a couple of days to figure out where to run water & drain lines so they don t get kinked or cause back ups. MtnCamper

jeffsxylI had to replace one, the first year. The new switch is going on 3 years, and works much better.

jeffsxylThank you all very much for your input.

When the camper is in for service to replace the sand pad that ripped off* when pulling the camper into the backyard after our last trip, we ve asked them to check out the wiring as well.  We ve lost running and break lights on the camper now as well so this may be a symptom of a bigger problem!

*The pad dangled perpendicular to the grass, got stuck in the soggy ground and ripped right off the bracket! Must have gotten stuck on a rock. <shrug>  We have LOTS of those in our backyard. [:D]

 Thanks again,
 Chris
