 tlhdocTracy,
I am not a big fan of the S hooks, I have had somone park an equipment trailer chock it, forgot to unhook the safety chains and drive off...straightened the hooks right out[:o] I have replaced all of mine with the screw links, but that brings up a whole nuther set of issues[8D]. I suspect the S hooks we had were not strong enough for the trailer they were on. If you buy you chain at Home Depot or Lowe s you can check the rating by looking on the end of the spool.
Most of the prepackaged safety chains I have seen are intended for a light weight utility trailer with a GVW of under 2000# you know the little $500ones   you see outside the lumber yard[:D]

slowpezI bought 4 of the links that are rated for 5000 pounds.[:@] The place where you attach the chains to the PU is too wide for the opening on the links so I am going to have to look for new ones that will fit the Explorer.
