I noticed when I was towing the PU to the dealer last week that I had an intermittent connection to the brake controller.  Jiggling the plug helped.  I did notice that the PU connector terminals (the female ones) look pretty dirty.  The TV connector is new.

Is there a good way to clean these terminals?

 Thanks.

TheWallRocksYou can use a contact cleaner then coat the contacts with a dielectric grease. We have a cap that you put over the plug as soon as you disconnect it, it will keep the contacts from corroding.

TheWallRocksIf the corrosion is enough to cause poor or intermittent contact, then the best thing is to use a fine emery board (used for filing fingernails).  Clean the contacts, then use dielectric grease to prevent corrosion.  You may need to trim the size of the emery board to fit in the slots.  Clean both the plug on the trailer and the jack on the tow vehicle.  Frequent use of an emery board will cause significant wear on the contacts, so prevention is important.

Use of a contact cleaner (either before, or after use of an emery board, or instead of the emery board in cases where the corrosion/dirt is minor) will help.

I have made a habit of putting the plug in and pulling it out three times before plugging it in to go.  This will clean any traces (key word...traces) of corrosion before the trip.  This will not clean or overcome significant corrosion, but will help to make the actual contact points as clean as possible.

TheWallRocksAfter you get it clean put in a bunch of dielectric grease. It s non-conductive so it can coat everything. If it s coated it won t corrode. Stuff is great.
