 The Eagle and the HawkJim
As my DW ( iwantapopup) Stated I replaced both ends of our roof.I found out that the roof is acually 1x2s frame. with foam placed in the midddle of the lattecework.I removed all this and replaced it with one single peice of ceder cut to the same size as the lattece work was. I should have replaced the other sides of it when the roof was totally off it. The sides of the roof are made the same way as the ends .What i have found out is the arms used to raise and lower the roof has elongated the holes On the sides I didn t replace. The arms are under constant preasure to raise the roof .So with the holes elongated the arms won t let the roof come all the way down .So i have an gap just like you do. When I force the roof down It will latch but it bows out on the sides now. So I am going to take the top off it this winter and replace the sides with ceder also. and where  the bolts that go though the roof are. I am going to drill the wholes a little bit bigger so i can place a piece of copper tubing in there so the bolt rides on the copper tubing instead of the wood so it doesn t elongate the holes anymore. And the solid piece of ceder will be much stronger then the 1x2 frame ever was. Now if the weather would just cooperate.

The Eagle and the Hawk

The Eagle and the HawkThanks for the great ideas on possible fixes for our roof.  We decided that we have to wait until we get the camper out in the spring, use it a few times and see if we can live with it, and if not, take a good hard look at things and see what fixes might work.

I think any of these possible solutions might work.  but I have to say, you are braver than me, tim, for tearing into your roof for a rebuild.  I don t think I have enough confidence in my own abilities to tackle something like that...
