We live in a complex that is probably discriminating against tennants with children.  At this point it looks like they are failing to renew the lease of tennants who have children.  Unfortunately, we live there and our lease is up July 31.  We ve already begun to look for another place, but I really don t want to have to move.

 Swell.

Here are the articles regarding this on our local news channel.

rajones315Have you spoken to the Attorney Generals Office or the Fair Housing Council about your concerns?  If you really don t want to move, they may be able to help you in renegotiating your lease.  Or at  least give you advice as to how the whole situation is going.  If a lawsuit is to be filed, or hearing to oocur, you may find that your lease is renewed, if only because the company wants to try to cover their tracks somewhat.  I would check around  to see what can be done to make sure you can stay whaile you are checking into other places.  Don t give up, but have a back up plan.

rajones315Why on earth would a landlord care if there were kids or not?  As long as the rent gets paid on time, who cares?  Are the kids in the neighborhood being particularly distructive, loud, ???  Having kids does take a toll ( you should see our house), but that should be covered under rent, deposits, etc!  Just make sure that you keep a really good " paper trail"  complete with dates, names, places, etc.  This proves invaluable when trying to prove a point!  Good-luck [;)]

rajones315We are going to document everything.  We are also going to video tape our place when we leave in case they want to withold our deposit.

BTW, I like your signature.  Reminds me of my email quote:  " TagLine - I shall pass this way but once; any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now.  Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again."
