What are your concerns about posting pictures of your children and their names?  We would like to do a website, but I am very leary of posting pictures of my girls and their names.  Am I worrying about nothing?

NCSunshineIf you are (worrying about nothing) ~ then so am I!  We do have a personal web page.  The only people who have the address are good friends and family.  I don t post the kids  names or ages (sometimes I do put their grade in, so I guess you could figure their ages) and when I choose photos I don t choose any that have identifying information in them (school sweatshirt for example).
I think it just comes down to what you are comfortable with.  I am much more concerned with protecting our privacy than a lot of people I know.

Turn Key

NCSunshineWill not post pictures or our real name.  Too mant nuts in this world.

NCSunshineThere are many concerns over the posting of pictures on the web. Most folks know my city of origin and our first names. Family friends and those we know well have our last name and even with that info we have unlisted phone numbers. I have pictures posted and if you can find us in the place we are from by those good luck you deserve to find us.[8D] I do make it a point not to post pictures with license tags visable and such but I am not going to get totally paranoid over it.  Most small site for personal sites are to hard to find and the wierdos never find them.

NCSunshineI don t have a personal website, but might work on it someday.  I would not post any pictures or names of our children.  Our last name is unique.  In fact I know all the living people who share my last name in the USA.  I am related to all of them, so I wouldn t put our last name, names or pictures of our kids on a website or a campsite sign..... I am not anti-social, but I do usually lean towards being on the safe side.  You can always lower your guard if you feel that it is warranted..... but once you have personal information out there it may be too late....

NCSunshineI use a simple rule of thumb when putting anything on my web page.
if I don t want the world to see it I don t put it on the web page.

birol

NCSunshineI do not put pictures of my children on the web.

Too many whackos. Just yesterday a 10 year old girl in western Toronto disappeared. Today they found her body pieces in Toronto island [:(][:(][:(]. I almost cried [>:]

We keep our children in front of our eyes , I might be over protective but too many kids dissappering. No need to attract attention to my children.

P.S. It was not Toronto island, lake shore ...... sad story

P.P.S. This is an example of a post ending a thread and I am sorry for it.

NCSunshineSince we don t have a site (yet), I don t have an opinion on that.  Sure that is hard to believe for people who know me.[&:]

Anyhow, I have had my identity stolen twice (well, three times, twice by the same person), without doing ANYTHING incorrect.  The reason we found out so fast is because we are extremely thorough on checking everything financial and confidential.

The first two were courtesy of my company, who had a temp working in the payroll dept for half a day.  The latest one, a couple of months ago, was via the Internet, probably from a Calif. mail order company.  I ll never know that one, because credit card companies don t prosecute until the damage reaches mega dollars (I work in the merchant electronic processing industry), so my guess is the card issuer simply issued me a new account, put a fraud warning on the system, and wrote it off.

If an individual wanted to, they can find out anything they want about anyone, probably for free.  Want to know the biggest leak in the world?  Your doctor s office, all those history forms and insurance forms.  You sign your life and privacy away (no matter what they tell you) the minute you want them to see you or if you want insurance to pick it up.  High turnover employment. too.

My point is simple.  Even if you do all the right things (as we have), you can still be a victim, because there is always a way.  It s always good to be safe, but paranoia breeds paranoia.  So be careful, but have fun and let the kids grow and have a little independence too.

NCSunshineDid you read in the newspapers that in UK, cameras and cellphones with cameras are forbidden to be used in sports events as the pictures of kids at these events  were taken and spotted at pedophile sites. If you want to use your camera at sport events, where the event is taking place only (not in washrooms, or lockers or showers), you have to get a written permisson.

Was the world like this and we weren t aware or are thing changing drastically ? I remember being 8 years old, walking 45 minutes away from my house to get newspapers or whatever  and return home each and every time safely. None of the girls we played with had to wear shorts, they all had dresses or skirts and nothign ever  happened to them ! We were of course told to be safe but we were outside our houses all day especially in summer, never heard anything bad like this.

 I am depressed !

NCSunshine

NCSunshineThanks everyone for your input, at least I m not paranoid as I thought I was[;)]

 NCSunshineNo Birol,
Your memory is right the world is changing! In alot of cases it does seem for the worst! But I think there have always been bad things going on we just weren t as aware of them because of the internet and media, Also there are more people in the world today than ever before, good and bad![: (] We do what we can to protect our own, hope we raised them the way they should and let them go out into the world. When I was in the 3rd grade (8years old) I used to ride my bike 1.5 miles to school, try that today!
