Did anyone see the news segment this morning that previewed a new anti SUV commercial that is going to start in a few days?

The commercial went something like this.

This is an SUV getting gas
This is the Oil Executive that they buy the gas from
These are the countries the oil exec buys gas from
Show?s map of Iraq, Saudi ect......
These are the terrorists that these countries give oil money to.

Give me a break!  Like SUV owners are the only ones to buy gas.  Sadly I m sure a lot of Californians will buy into it.

NickI heard a soundbyte the other day saying something like... if you own an SUV you are supporting terrorism.  I mentioned it to Scott but he didn t know what it meant.  Thanks for the explanation.  We love our Trail Blazer and I think it actually uses less gas than our previous Venture.  I m not sure about the Californian s buying into the concept since, from my observation, they seem to love their SUV s.

NickI ve seen an anti-SUV billboard in the L.A. area that was for the Mini Cooper.  Might be a little tough towing the pop up with a Mini???

NickI think I will see a Mini Cooper ON TOP of a PU before I see a PU behind a mini-Cooper.

NickMaybe...  but I bet they could put a fiver hitch on the roof and add a NO2 kit to improve the towing power![;)][:D][8D]

NickNick:Haven t seen it yet but I ve heard alot about it. If " they"  are so concerned about the amount of oil that is being used to make the gas, how come nobody has gone after the Jiffy Lube type places for recommending oil changes every 3000 miles when most vehicle owners manuals recommend around 7000?

NickAnd now I hear this morning they want to increase the carpool occupation to three instead of two and sell special passes to let single occupants utilize the lanes.  Its funny this comes about when most are calling for the elimination of carpool lanes.

NickThe instigator of this silly commerical is columnist Ariana Huffington.  She asked the public for contributions and I think raised $50,000 for ads running yesterday through Monday or Tuesday (the story was on cnn.com yesterday).

The thing is, I drive mu SUV 3 blocks to the train station parking lot every morning and gas up about once a month.  DH drives a Ford Taurus 2 hours one way every day and is at the pump about every 3 days.  Did Ariana ever stop to think about THAT?

With her line of thinking, we ll all be back to push mowers in the summer...

NickI saw the commercial.  Apparently they are being shown in some other large cities besides LA.

Ain t American great?  Everyone is entitled to express their opinion without fear of the government!

NickGee do you think Ariana Huffington will come and drive me  30 miles to work when there is 8 inches of snow on the ground?  Tow my PU when we go camping?  I think not.  That is like saying if you own a large home you are supporting terrorists.  You use a lot more energy to heat/cool a large home, so anyone that does that is supporting terrorist just as much as a SUV driver does.   No public transportation in my area either.[: (]

NickWith her reasoning, we would be taking a Briggs & Stratton to work every day. In fact, it s worse than that. If you bought a single drop of gas before Sept 11, you supported terrorism.

That means that not only my two vehicles (10 cylinders total), but also my two stroke weedwhacker, my two atv s, my John Deere push mower, and my Murray push mower ALL supported terrorism.

Oh yeah..my kerosene heater support Osama as well.

Ariana: Your mind wouldn t be such a terrible thing to waste.

NickRead on another website that Ariana Huffington is mega-rich, with nothing to do but complain. She doesn t use commercial airlines, has her own jet. Yet complains about SUV s wasting energy. She s got Norman Lear(All in the family creator) backing her up, and he just built a 21-yes, 21- car garage on his property in California. Neighbors are already complaining about obstructed views, lower land values, etc.
BTW, her husband just came " out of the closet" [:o] Wonder if being married to her had something to do with it.[;)]
